C O L T

At four they strung together my heart, fragile and delicate and hanging by just a thread from my chest. It bled and bled, waves of reds and black spilled out to the world until they finally sewed it shut, stitches and heartstrings attached to their fingers and to their control.

At seven they sewed a brain, purple and blue and stitched together with half of the heart that they buried in my chest, smart enough to know how to be handled but dumb enough to never know how to rebel. Pins and needles and the same strings that tug and pull and control my heart wired themselves into my own head, buried in the claws of parents who wanted nothing but to control.

At twelve they saw my tears and wiped them clean, leaving venom and poison in their wake. They took my eyes and sewed them shut, pressed the shadows of our home into my skin and built a cage of tattered heartstrings and forgotten childhood, imprisoned and forgotten.

At eighteen I am skin and bones and strings meant to be pulled, rippled underneath my skin and replacing every blood and vein in my body, just like they want.
