Society has a way of forcing people into bubbles. When Panem thinks of District Seven, they imagine trees, lumberjacks, and the occasional lunatic who uses axes for the wrong reasons. Or they think of its victors - powerful, influential, strong.
On an individual level, Torian has his own bubble. He is what they call 'gifted', blessed with above average intelligence. As a result, people think of him as a bookworm, an introvert, a sweet boy who must spend all day in the library beating the other kids at chess!
Torian doesn't care about all of that. They want him to visit District Six and study among scientists, and he wants to ride his bike into the woods and practice tricks on the rocky ramps. He wants to climb trees and balance across the long branches. He wants to play in the mud and get dirty. Adventure calls to him every day, and society tries to hold him back.
His parents coerced him into joining clubs he wanted no part of and meeting people he did not care about. They insisted he hang out with the other 'smart kids' at school. Torian knows that they are nice kids with good hearts, but they're so boring!
He hides from his parents and peers as often as possible to enjoy his small freedoms. He has his own tiny friend group that he built himself, and they don't treat him any differently just because he's a "genius." It's actually an inside joke, and slowly he is learning that he can have multiple identities, multiple bubbles.
He does not have to live up to anybody's standards.
