The funny thing about legacies is that most people don't live up to them. They often sit back and admired the fruits of other's labours, basking in the privilege their upbringing gave them. The thing is, these people are fooled into thinking they're successful because of their wealth and riches. What they don't realize is that they're just products of luck and chance, being born into the position they were. These types of people are the ones I like to call losers, even more so than the poor or less fortunate.

My father came from nothing. He built his empire up from basically nothing, coming from a background of misfortune. I know I possess an immense amount of privilege being his son. I've never had to worry for my wants or needs, thanks to him. My gratitude extends so far that I am willing to do almost anything to please him. My dream is to one day inherit Kandrona Enterprises and grow it even larger than my father did, capitalizing on the legacy he made for himself. Privilege isn't always a bad thing. The difference between being successful and being a loser is that those who gain success use their privilege to better themselves and their legacy.

Of course, living up to a legacy is almost just as hard as creating one. I knew I had to know the right people. My father taught me that making connections was definitely more important than getting a good education. And so, that's what I did. With a charming smile and admittedly good looks, I learned how to win people over pretty quickly. It wasn't hard when you grew up as a Kandrona boy.

I've always been naturally gifted when it comes to doing business. Negotiations came easy to me, starting from school yard snack trades to bigger, more illicit substances. I learned quickly that throwing a bunch of rich and spoiled teenagers into one setting was the ultimate breeding ground for the use of common street drugs. I was quickly able to snake my way into the system of buying and selling. Now, when someone around school is looking for their next fix, my face is the one they think of.

Morality is a strange thing. Some people can't tell the difference from right from wrong, which is what drives people to lack morals. The thing is, I don't lack morals. I'm more than aware of the difference between good and bad. However, I consciously decide not to care for morals. I don't need the money, my family makes enough to probably solve hunger in a single district. The thrill of doing something wrong gives me a sense of power, a shot of adrenaline that no drug could ever compete.

I have a tendency to experience rage with such intensity it sometimes turns violent. Despite that, I am not an angry person. It takes a lot to truly anger me, but the result can be so threatening that even I'm scared of myself. I enter an entirely new state of myself, where my consciousness disappears and all of my thoughts and emotions turn into destruction. Training as a career helps to keep my emotions at ease. It gives me an outlet where I can channel my destructive thoughts into a purpose.

Controlling my anger isn't the only reason why I train as a career. It all comes back down to legacies. In Panem, the ultimate legacy is to become a victor in the Games. It's not something I desire enough to volunteer - no, the risk of dying without creating something of myself is way too high. But to be reaped and die a martyr? That was a vision I could foresee myself living. Not to mention, the patriotic ideals of representing your district with pride was a destiny I could live.

I've inherited a lot from my father. His money, his personality, and hopefully his empire. But lately, I've been craving something more that riches could not possibly suffice. I know my father is hiding something - whether it be adultery or something much, much bigger. His secrets could not be hidden from me - he is smart, but he forgets who he raised. I plan to get to the bottom of it. And I definitely plan to use it to my advantage.
