He runs his fingers across the wooden hilt of the fire axe as he speaks, eyes drifting over to his ally and a concerned look of contempt on his face. They'd left Emerson's body just outside the Cornucopia, her final resting place little more than a blood-stained patch of grass and daisies and Julian's tears her final monologue. He lets his gaze drift over to their newfound ally, too, eye twitching in annoyance as he watches him absently play with the daisies within his grasp.
Julian and Waverly had convinced him not to kill the lad under the guise of using him as bait and, outnumbered in the decision he had finally relented, forcing Chad Chapman's face down into the dirt once more for good measure before abandoning him with a sigh and an eye roll. And now he sits, fighting back the scowl on his face as he observes a boy who is exactly what he was pretending to be in the Training Center, only this time it's the truth. He reasons this was probably Emerson's last card thrown out on the table, some form of revenge from beyond the grave. Fuck you, Emie. He thinks to the ghosts in his head, toxic and deadly.
"Gonna go collect some firewood." He says finally, running his left hand softly on Julian's, the boy's gaze silent and unmoving and fuck, he's hard to work with, "Waverly, come with?" He says to the girl to his right as he rises, grabbing the fire poker from his items. The sponsorship gifts had come down in droves all across the arena, little red balloons contrasting against the blue sky as they fell. He'd noted that it was taboo for this much sponsorship to rain from the skies, most likely due to the Gamemakers reacting to so much immediate fleeing from the Bloodbath.
He waits until their allies are nearly out of sight, arching their path around the expansive ropes course and finally slowing his pace when they reach the archery range itself, stopping short in front of an archery target. "Well.." He starts, resting the axe against his leg and bringing the makeshift spear up to rest on his shoulder as he turns towards Waverly. "You've outlasted one Career. Congrats, I guess." He says with a weak smile.
"No offense, but I expected you to go first." He says plainly, shrugging. "But since you didn't, and since we now have another guy pulled in as dead weight.." He remarks coldly, bitterness seeping into his words. "You should probably know how to use a weapon. I know you only worked with bows in the training center." He looks back around at the landscape surrounding them, tilting his head slightly. He had no clue how or why there were no goddamn bow and arrows in a summer camp arena, but if it was what they had to work with then so be it.
"Catch." He says suddenly, lobbing the fire poker softly at Waverly. "Let's see what you've got." He says, stepping away from the target and motioning for her to hit it with anything she's got.
