They sit in a stadium of silence, stoic expressions plastered onto their faces as they simmer in their own defeat. Love's blue eyes shift from the ground and up to his allies and back again, finally settling on Julian's back with a frown and a bit lip.
He doesn't know if Julian asked him to fight for him because he trusted him or because he only saw him as such- a fighter and a monster, with a dead heart and a collapsing soul.
It eats at him as he sits there, running his finger tips back and forth across the blade of the axe with a scowl written deep on his face. Thoughts flicker and swirl at the back of his mind and it's taking everything for him to suppress them down, to make sure walls made of bloody diamond remain standing no matter what.
He's losing the battle and the war. The silence isn't helping, either, so he stands on legs growing tired and looks towards Julian, blue eyes not catching his gaze. He shifts his view towards Waverly, frowning as she avoids his gaze. Shelby had threatened him with the same silence they now sit in, seen through a facade laid on so thick that he'd been floating on cloud nine most of his time in the training center, told him that if he killed her she'd personally do things to him that he would never recover from.
He believed her. Shelby Leviane didn't survive against the most tributes in a Games to date just to make false promises.
And yet, it was not as if Waverly needed much of his help.
He'd seen her knife embed itself into the hand of their enemy in their fight, catching it from the corner of his eye just before Chad's cannon sounded and his body crumbled. It made him wary and it made him alert, that her danger had snuck up on him more than he'd expected. And, in a weird way, it'd made him proud.
He hated that feeling, how foreign it was to be placed on anyone besides himself.
"Waves, come grab plants with me?"
