The rain sounded like stones, colliding with the tents exterior. Unlike the calming sound of rain pitter-pattering against the window, the sound was unrelenting and loud, each thump was like a nail pounding against her skull. The tent that they were squeezed into was a tight fit for the two of them. It didn't matter that Robin was small, his body barely anything more than skin, bone and muscles from a lifetime of malnutrition, she could feel his body heat radiating against her skin.

A sigh on her lips she rolls over, her back towards him, as she tried to zone out the sound of the rain and focus on the sound of Robins breathes. She fucking hated the rain. She hated being wet and cold and right now her uniform was saturated, her boots soaked she had shoved them down by the tents opening, though she doubted that they'd dry by the morning.

Her stomach growls and she pulls out the trail mix she had taken from Bubby's dead body. Chewing of the various nuts and seeds only gave her a temporary relief from the torrential rain that was hammering down around them.

The high from her earlier kill had warn off the moment she had seen Bellamy's body. Bliss replaced by a rage that still simmered with intensity in the pit of her stomach. The bloodlust that had consumed her in that moment was like nothing she had felt before, her desire to kill becoming more than a want, becoming a need. She needed to take away the life of the one who had taken away his from her. The possessiveness she felt towards the boy from home was some sort of twisted attraction that even Mauve herself was struggling to understand.

And she wasn't sure that she would understand, or if she wanted to understand.

All she knew was that she wanted to be the one who killed the one who had broke him.

Rolling over once again she eyes study the boy beside her, one arm tucked under her head, the other wrapped around herself in an attempt to keep her body warmth trapped and to keep her warm.

"How are you feeling?" She asks, genuinely curious about how he was feeling about Bubby and aiding in his murder. She remembers the first time she took a life, she remembers exactly how she felt. But she was having trouble reading Robin. She had expected him to crumble at Bubby's death. She had even expected some tears, but from what she had seen, he seemed, well, okay. Maybe she had simply missed his meltdown when she had wondered off, leaving him with the responsibility of assembling the tent. Or maybe he was handling the situation with an ease that would impress her.

An inch of water sludged up through the soles of his sneakers with every step. The rain had started early in the morning but grew stronger with every hour. Midday, Robin had given up trying to use his knapsack as a makeshift umbrella and succumbed to the reality that he'd spend the rest of the day soaking. Accepting that he'd be wet didn't make it any better. The khaki shirt lining grew sheer the more water it absorbed, curving around every curvature of his hobbly torso. While walking, the massively pocketed shorts grew heavier tugging threateningly at his hips to slip down. If he lost any more weight, the shorts would fall with one sudden movement. The worst was his shaggy brown hair that mopped across his eyes making it even harder to see. Already exhausted from the earlier battle, pushing his newfound bangs out of his eyes became an elaborate task.

As the evening grew closer, Mauve pulled them over to set up shop. It was apparent that Mauve's survival acuity was much better than his. Robin didn't care where he slept, though he did long for the comfortable cabins from the second night. As long as Mauve saw it as somewhere that they could hide out, Robin was certain that it would work out. He fumbled helped her build the tent, bashing his thumb accidentally while setting up a post, but refusing to mention it to his ally lest she scathed him.

They spent the early evening snacking silently on trail mix, finishing off what was left of the bag he'd collected on day one. He'd been rationing it out slowly throughout the days, but he'd managed to finish it all up after four days. Now the Hunger Games truly began, he thought. Mauve silently handed him a few sets of medical plants which he used on himself to soothe the welts that grew red and itchy across his forearms. He nodded in appreciation, daring not to look into her eyes.

Normally the pattering of rain would lull Robin to sleep back home. He lamented in those memories of comfort as he huddled in the tent afraid that every raindrop was an enemy assailant. Loud noise, regardless of how comforting it was back home, was never ideal in the arena. Though it was pitch black and the tent was well-hidden, there was no guarantee that some tribute couldn't just sneak up and attack them. They wouldn't even hear them coming if they were careful enough. And though he tried to push past the deafening pelts against the nylon roofing, he couldn't decipher the natural forest sounds through the storm.

Robin almost fell backward in shock when Mauve spoke, surely shivering at the echo of her voice. At first, he wondered if she'd fell asleep and began to sleep talk, assuming she wouldn't be speaking to him out of free will. There was a whole day of conversation based only on orders that set that as a precedent. Her voice was sincere and tender, alluring. The wolf could be charming after all. "I'm not sure." He's honest with her. He'd spent the afternoon trying to grow empathetic towards the boy he'd had a hand in killing. Yet outside his want to grant Bubby a quick and merciful death, he felt nothing regarding his role in his demise.

He knew the game. The premise was clear. Robin had played the way he knew would work for him alone to not grow fond or create lasting bonds. "Didn't think I'd make it this long if I'm being honest." Robin sat cross-legged, wiggling his pruned toes, and looking down he confessed. "I thought for sure when you caught me day one that would be the end of the line, and I was alright with going early." He rolled his shoulders while admitting his ideations to Mauve, it was a little uncomfortable. "But then it was day two, then three, and I figure," he paused, scratching at his knees. "why not see how far I can go? How are you feeling?"

In the darkness she can't read the expression on his face, flashes of lightning give her brief glances but not enough to fully interpret the emotions that play of features that were slowly becoming for familiar to her. So instead she closes her eyes, paying attention to the emotions that play in his voice.

"I'm not sure," he says with uncertainty, the rain hammering into the plastic tarp that surrounded them. She never thought that she'd find herself in a somewhat peaceful situation with the boy from six. She had almost been certain that the next time she ran into him would have been the last time, taking her sweet time in tormenting him before killing him and leaving his body for collection, to be delivered to the child victor of his home.

But here she was, laying beside the boy, feeling the beat of his heart through each pulse of heat that radiated from him, warm against her skin. She had every intention of killing him last night, every intention of torturing and tormenting him until he begged for her to stab him in the heart. But then he had passed out, leaving her to carry around his dead weight until she found a place for them to to sleep that night.

Then came the morning and the game makers delivered her Bubby Caro on a silver platter.

But he had impressed her today. His attacks accurate even though unwanted. And his response to Bubby's death almost nonchalant except for the way his voice initially trembled when the canon boomed through the arena. Even with each strike she didn't see his fingers shake. At first he had hesitated, plea's for Bubby to stay away, but then he had struck without restraint, without emotion... And when she looked at him she could see small fragments of herself in the way that his eyes didn't shine with remorse. In the way that he didn't apologise.

She found herself wondering whether he enjoyed it, killing.

"Didn't think I'd make it this long if I'm being honest... I thought for sure when you caught me day one that would be the end of the line, and I was alright with going early." The words caused Mauves lips to pull into a smirk. She had had every intention of killing him that day, if only Liara hadn't caught up to her so quickly. Robin didn't know that the career had saved his life. "But then it was day two, then three, and I figure... Why not see how far I can go?" Mauve wasn't sure how far he could make it. For now he would be safe though, her genuine curiosity, enough to keep him around for the time being.

But then again maybe he would be the one to make it to the end, just like the little boy before him.. After all a blind kid had managed to shoot a career in the eye just last year. One mistake, even by Mauve herself, could see her ass six feet under in a grave that would have no flowers laid by it. In a years time it would be covered in dust, unkept and forgotten.

"How are you feeling?" The question catches her off guard a little. Mauve didn't know how long it had been since someone had asked her that question? Or just in general enquired about how she was feeling. She had given so much to her mother, done so much for her. Even before the whole "I killed my sister" thing. Mauve was always the one who was forgotten.

Even since coming to the capitol, no one had asked her how she was, how she was feeling- granted all she mostly did was threaten people, make them extremely uncomfortable... But still. Even Bellamy had never really asked her, the one person who her threats were never directed to, had never really had any concern for her physical or emotion wellbeing. Mostly because she was sure that most of them- even Bellamy- wished they had never met her. Sure she was unhinged, she was broken, and she was nasty. Most of the time it never bothered her. But after seeing Bellamy's dead body, and the excitement of the day had her emotionally chafed.

After all she was human.

"I'm..." She paused, rolling onto her back, her arms wrapping around herself. "Good." And she was. She was angry, Fleur's name imprinted into her mind, but she could still feel the gentle buzz of Bubby's death beneath her skin. Faint, but alive, not fully initiated by her rage. "Do you know who Fleur is?" she almost spits the name, her lips forming a snarl over the word. "Her name is next on my list. It would seem you are safe." She pauses again, this time for dramatic effect cause Mauve Morganstern is a bitch.

"For now."
