For a moment, all Fleur hears is ringing. She doesn’t have to look at Thad to know he’s gone, the weight of his presence suddenly crumpling into dust. Her eyes linger on the face of his killer before flickering to the girl — hair red like Liara’s, but with none of the fight — who stood before Fleur begging for her end. She may be at the end of her rope now, but if what Thad said was true, she had once stolen someone that mattered to him.

Fleur’s fingers flex at her sides, and she slowly reaches behind her back to release her machete. She’s outnumbered. At any moment, the girl and her ally could drop the act and attack. In another moment, the pair from Seven could easily turn on her. In days prior, Fleur had felt fear, grief, rage, whatever emotion had made her want to pry Mauve’s ribcage open and destroy everything on the inside — but now all she felt was defeat.

Her heart thuds inside her chest, and she narrows her eyes at the redhead. At the very least, she can finish what Thad started.

The girl murmurs something to her partner, but Fleur doesn’t care what it is. All she wants is for everyone in this arena to hurt.
