Ping!

The doors to the elevator slide open and I slip in, one hand to cradle the food baby that had formed in a belly that was full of delicious food. The food here was nothing like it was back home. The flavors were so exotic, and the variety! They had at least twelve different types of sweet bread, twelve! And then don't get me started on the rage of fried meat they had on display. Oh my god, mum would kill me if she saw the way I gobbled down two skewers of fried chicken, barely breathing between each mouthful. I could hear her scolding me as the meat melted on my tongue, coating my mouth with grease and oil, and fat.

I press the button for the roof, the doors sliding closed soundlessly and I go zipping up the building, silently, effortlessly. It was amazing, the technological advancements of the capital. Everything seemed bigger here, brighter, and more extravagant. I knew that I should hate this place, but my holding cell was so beautiful that I felt my resistance slipping, slipping, slipping.

Ping!

The doors open and I am hit is a gust of fresh air. Breathing out a long breath I slip from the shelter of the elevator, reveling in the feeling of air kissing my cheeks, the exposed skin of my arms. Smiling I slip around the corner, preparing to flop down onto cold cement and enjoy watching the clouds and stars as they danced through the sky, oblivious to the future of those who slumbered in the building full of ghosts.

Then I see the blonde-haired career from four, and instinct has me stopping in my tracks. A career. A career I had no doubt would know how to hit better than any kid I picked a fight with back in district six. I mean statistically, that last district four boy had been close to useless, Bubby Caro, if I remembered correctly. Maybe back home there was the wrong breed of muscle. The doctors told me that I would never feel, that it was not scientifically possible... But what if... What if I was that exception?

I don't think anyone would ever really understand the desperation that consumed to just be able to know what it felt like to be in pain. Something that people wished they never had to endure, was something that I wished I had the chance to experience, just to know. Not knowing was like having at itch that was just out of reach, determined to drive me mad.

I could hear Flynn's voice in my head as I pulled back my shoulder, my face hardening with determination as I made a naively stupid decision. It was screaming at me to stop, to turn around, to stop being STUPID. But I ignore it, swallowing hard, after all I was a young stupid, stubborn girl.

"Hey, Four!" I call, before balling my fist and throwing it towards his face.
