Sobbing, shaking, disintegrating. So stumbled Tsara away from the Cornucopia's island. She tracked Whiskey's shadow as he fled. She was grateful no one had tried to mangle her strong legs. The rest of her hurt and burned and ached. Her entire face felt as though it had been flattened and the sticky mess along her left neck and shoulder -- well she couldn't think too hard about that at all.

The ground shifted from something sure and dusty to something unpredictable.

Tsara looked up with a gasp. "Wait! Please -" she sniffled. Something thicker than snot, shot through with blood, dripped from her broken nose. "Please I can't." She shivered, clinging to the bridge's ropes. "Nixie. She'll know what to do. If we just wait?"

Tears made her eyes bright and betrayed every one of her short thirteen years.

I got away with a bag, a whip and a blow-up t-rex costume, unsure of what exactly I'd do with that last item. I'd somehow dodged a javelin like an insanely agile animal and got away only having been hit once, someone else's whip having left a welt on my arm. I was actually quite impressed with myself. It turns out that my confidence wasn't unwarranted.

Running in the opposite direction of the bloodbath, I heard four cannons sound.

"Sinead?" I said aloud as I stopped to glance around for a moment. I didn't see her, so I kept running. I couldn't focus on my concern for her too much. I had to keep moving, at least a little bit further away from the chaos. She'd been the only one I hadn't seen run away from the bloodbath yet, out of our alliance. I knew Tsara and Whiskey got away, and hoped she'd done the same.

I followed the direction I'd known Tsara and Whiskey had gone, and managed to catch up with them. Tsara was clinging to the ropes of the bride, and I heard her say that she wanted to wait for me. Honestly, I never expected them to actually wait for me, or want to wait for me, but Tsara seemed to have grown fond of my presence, for whatever reason.

It made me feel good about myself, which was more than I could say for my parents.

Tsara started crying, and I approached carefully. I kept my distance until they knew it was me, just to make sure I didn't get attacked for 'sneaking up on them' or something like that.

"Tsara, it's Nixie," I said gently from behind her, hoping she'd recognize my voice and not go into flight or fight mode. "You'll be okay."

I couldn't promise she would be okay, but I could give her hope by saying it without a guarantee, at least.

Just as quickly as she had arrived, Sinead had fled the Bloodbath. Her heart jumped through her chest, her adrenal cortex working overtime as the height of her panic began to slow. She had made it through the Bloodbath, unscathed - and though her vest now covered in crimson, her skin remained uncracked; a lone bruise being the only piece of evidence of her battle.

She had run after Nixie, though her legs much longer and much faster than Sinead's had covered a lot more distance. But as the figures of her two female companions became closer and closer - her brain became frazzled with the events that had just taken place.

All she could do was laugh.

"We made it," she giggled in between her breaths, "we-"

Her mouth drew to a close and her eyebrows furrowed as the small figure of Tsara Fer curled tightly into a ball entered Sinead's field of view. "Oh."

And then cannons. Four of them.

"OH."

He knew as soon as he stepped into the Bloodbath that it wanted to claim his life as its own.

Nylon's fist found him soon after he entered, all bared fangs and revenge laced into the knuckles and he could feel the memory of their spar in the Training Center in the way she lashed out with a smile on her face. Sick fucking bastards, he thinks to himself as he finally winds down his sprint to a walk away from the carna, lungs heaving and pounding against his chest. He runs a fingertip against his lip and grimaces at the hollow pain that sprouts from the source as he does so. The bastard from Four had thrown him to the dirt when he wasn't looking, and like a goddamn snake Nylon had pounced onto him with a bloody smile and sick stare.

"You owe me a rematch, Whiskey babe."

He'd returned the proposal with a glob of spit to her face, and she'd returned it by offering a kiss of death, biting down hard into his bottom lip until Sinead had thrown her off him. "Never was into blondes back in Seven." He mutters to himself, rubbing the blood his lip left on his fingertips until there's nothing on his skin but a faint crimson hue. "Bitch proved me right."

Guilt doesn't find him the way he knows it should, the way he knows he should feel it ripple and shatter around his heart when he finally catches sight of his allies on the bridge. Hollow steps and hollow heart, his gaze widens as he settles on the youngest of them steeped in her own blood, begging and pleading to be okay to a Career that should have never started caring for any of 'em.

"Ripred, it looks like Hell tried to claim you, Fer-"

Four cannons ring out through the air and bite into the words that threaten to slip from his lips, rip and tear through them until he's left biting at the poison left sitting on his tongue. The sounds echo and dance through the arena, hammering against his bones and ringing between his ears. Four., his mind counts out the beats and settles into a wave of its own disbelief, replaying the sound of the coffins closing over and over again as his eyes look back towards the cornucopia.

Four down, four dead, coffins opened and coffins closed and Whiskey feels his jaw clench as he remembers his training center conversations with Mackenzie Pryce, all spit venom and empty heart and a master plan with more holes in it than a Rebel soldier after the Dark Days.

"Oh, got it all figured out, then?"

Wiz grinds his teeth until it feels like he's chewing on nothing but dust and dirt, choking on his own sins and spitting them back out. It's all he can give him, just enough silence to say that Pryce was right all along. Ain't in a Finch's DNA to give anyone that fucking satisfaction.

"Fucking hell." He mutters as he pulls his gaze from the Cornucopia and back to his allies, narrowing his gaze as Nixie speaks sweet nothings into Tsara's ear. Bullshit, a voice in his head bares its fangs and speaks with bloody intentions as he stares down at the youngest member of their alliance, drenched in a blanket of crimson and shivering into Nixie's form.

Watch 'em bleed and watch 'em fall, the longer he stares at Tsara the more he feels like he's waiting on a feeling of sorrow that'll never come, a feeling dead and buried six feet under years ago.

"Four dead. She gonna be the fifth?" He says and ice instinctively laces itself into the words, casting a shallow glance towards Nixie and Sinead.

A voice, like the twittering of a songbird. "You'll be okay."

Tsara sobbed. A trickle of blood ran freely from her smashed nose, somehow working its away around the accumulated snot. She wiped her upper lip, which did little to improve her appearance and nothing at all to stop the bleeding.

"Ripred, it looks like Hell tried to claim you, Fer-"

Boom. Boom. Boom. Boom.

"OH."

Tsara knotted her fingers around the bridge ropes. Somehow she thought maybe if she held on tight enough help would come. But it was slowly dawning on her that the only rescue she was going to get was right in front of her.

"She gonna be the fifth?"

"No," Tsara said, the word weighted in the way only a thirteen year old can make it. No, stupid. Knees still to her chin, Tsara tilted her head back and pinched the bridge of her nose. It felt huge, absolutely massive, and so tender.

Now, when she spoke, her voice sounded thick and muffled. "You could help me."

She sniffled, turned her head a bit to look directly at Wiz. "Not you, clearly. Nixie? I know you were paying attention during the first aid training. How do I -" she circled her face with her free hand, "fix this?"
