"It's... Avrieeeel!" they say, sing-song like. They enter the training center foyer like a mint canary, showing up 10 minutes late to an interview Ash begged Avriel's management for. It's fashion, okay? "District 9's pride, mwah, mwah," fake kisses from five feet away, Ash puts on their shades as they take their seat across from the newest victor.

"Ugh, it's so nice to meet you, I'm sure this year has been crazy for you. How's the family, the Capitol is obsessed with Becky and Duke, every moment is like.... a moment, you know?" They shuffle their note cards until it's feeling something right, "and then rumors say your aunt's competing on Castle Game! Talk about busy," booked and employed, that's the way we do it! Ash bounces the hair on her shoulder, making sure to look all kinds of voluminous for the camera's.

"So you know we all want your goss on the Games, how are you liking mentoring? I imagine Colgate's finally retiring, man has been working for decades. And let me just say, Aneesa fainting and Zane 1v2'ing for the wealth, ICONIC!" Shouting with wide hands, "you must be so proud, really."

If you're gonna die, do it good.

"Tell us everything."

Avriel sits in the enormous foyer of the training centre, a wooden stool empty across from him and heavy light from two kits trained on the set-up. Robbie called in sick today so Gloria got someone else to dress him and it shows. Sampson Crowe took one look at Avriel and decided that he needed black matte talons and a velvet choker.

It feels constricting. Avriel slips a finger beneath the choker as he waits just for some air. His thoughts go idle, the line where the shadows meet the pool of light lulls him into a thoughtless moment and then the doors to the training centre open wide and Avriel straightens.

Oh.

They approach him, mouth moving, a flurry of action and Avriel leans back the slightest bit, already overwhelmed. He remembers this person from the afterparty last year, Ash, or something. It's hard to remember that night clearly. There'd been so many people and no one had told him that the drinks were spiked.

"Billie and Duke," he corrects but the interviewer is already onto another topic faster than Avriel can keep up. Luckily it doesn't seem like Ash needs much from him anyway. "Yeah, Theo? She's–" he starts, "She is."

Avriel tuned in for the first episode last night, but turned it off again as soon as a contestant fell in the first game. Elimination means death and here, in the training centre, so close to everything, he doesn't know if he can handle that right now.

"Zane and Aneesa?" he parrots, "Yeah they uh, they're pretty good I guess." Avriel shrugs, hands on his knees, not quite looking at Ash, "It'd be nice if they came back probably." Granted, Zane was the more popular choice over Aneesa right now. Early polls after the bloodbath have him ranked high for his showmanship.

"I'm not gonna get my hopes up though, that'd just be stupid."
