Death is nothing new, yet it doesn't feel good, and for a moment Maddox stares at the body lying on the ground before running away. All it would take is for someone to follow them, to find them, to take over while they aren't looking. Getting far away is important. Running away from the giant mutts fighting is important if it is even possible.
For once, Maddox understands why Cedric wanted to enjoy the show. It's fascinating to watch them strike each other, but what is stopping them from striking the tributes violently? What is stopping them from turning against those enjoying the show?
Yet they don't stop.
One step after another, they sprint full speed despite their lungs and heart begging for a break. Finding a safe place is important. Finding a place to hide, finding somewhere to rest for the night.
No place is safe in the arena. Creatures are always lurking about, and who knows when a wandering tribute would stumble upon them and kill them in their sleep? Staying awake is better.
Maddox slides down to the ground, and pulls out some of their healing supplies. The stomach wound isn't looking ideal right now, and cleaning it up is important to keep infections away. Of course it could be too late. Maddox doesn't know; however, it won't stop them from trying. It hurts to press against it, and it takes every ounce of strength not to shout at the top of their lungs. That would only give away their location.
Tears stream down their cheeks dripping onto the ground below.
Suck it up. Crying won't change anything.
Once the healing is complete, they reach into their bag and grab the can of spaghetti. It'll offer some needed relief because right now the only thing they can think of is figuring out where to go from here, and how they can make it home alive.
