Cedric was dead. Completely dead, and with no ears left to spare. I killed him. I wasn't ashamed of it, either. It felt good. It felt right. The fight gave me adrenaline. It gave me an intense feeling of joy. It was thrilling. It was beyond just enjoyable. I felt euphoric.

This was my third kill in the arena and now there were four of us left. I wondered who was left, honestly. Were Abel, Sinead and Whiskey all still alive? Was it just the four of us? Or was it a different group of tributes that made up the final four? I supposed I'd find out that night when the anthem played and faces showed in the sky.

Marina was probably impressed with me. My parents were probably a little bit frightened, but at least somewhat proud. I had no idea what Wander would be thinking, or any of my other friends for that matter. I moved away from Cedric's body, rain pouring down on me from the sky, and found myself huddled under my raincoat when I found something to lean up against as I sat on the soaking wet ground. It wasn't really shelter by any means.

Emmy peaked her head out of my pocket and looked up at me. She must've realized it was safe, at least temporarily, to check on me.

"Hey there Emmy, you hangin' in there?" I asked the little dinosaur. I doubted it understood me, but it nuzzled my hand and I gave it a sweet smile. It was nice to still have company, despite being in a nearly empty arena.

I sat there, simply thinking about what was to come. Of course, I'd never let my guard down. I would keep hold of my machete. My weapon wouldn't leave my side, no matter what.

I had to win this, after all.

As I sat there with my dinosaur friend, something caught my attention. I could hear the flapping of wings. Immediately, I put Emmy back in my pocket and held tight to my machete. Had the Capitol sent a mutt my way? I squinted through the rain, looking up to see what it was. That was when I realized that it wasn't an enemy. It was Sinead's pterodactyl, and it had something in its grasp.

When it landed next to me, it nudged me, handing me one of the things that it was holding. It was a note, and it had others, too. I assumed it intended to deliver them to Abel and Whiskey, since they had to be from Sinead. I unrolled the paper that the pterodactyl had delivered and patted the creature on the head before I began to read the note. I was holding my coat over the note, careful not to let it get anymore wet. I still wanted to be able to read it.

That's all it said. It wasn't signed, but I knew it was from her, given the pterodactyl. I didn't know what to think at first, but I understood. She didn't want us to die. That meant something, at least. I then looked at the pterodactyl.

"Can I have the other notes for a moment?" I asked it. "I want to write some things to the others."

It seemed like it was hesitating, but eventually handed them over. I didn't have a pen to write with, so I decided to use some of Cedric's blood that was still on my machete's blade.

I dipped my finger in it and started to write on Whiskey's letter first.

Radio me. Still alive. -Nix

It was a short message, since it was hard to write in blood, but it was effective enough.

I wrote the same note on Abel's letter from Sinead, and on my own note I'd received from Sinead, I wrote back to her. I wasn't sure whether I hoped to hear from them all or not. The less of us who were alive, the less likely we were to have to fight one another, and they were really the only ones left in this arena that I didn't want to have to kill. I would if it came down to it, though. I wanted that crown.

I deserved that crown.
