"my name is maddox."
and it's beautiful
like the sound of rain falling
and it's terrible
like the thud of their body against the earth
a halo of blood and an emerging sun
out from behind the clouds
reflecting in their eyes
/ in Maddox's eyes
call it a coronation
and it's hard not to feel traumatized
when you kill a person who refused to die
because what does that mean for her?
hope is a lie she chooses to believe
she fears a blade
of her own forging
her fists squeeze by her side
the memory of a trigger
ripping through her
like a gunshot
it's familiar in the worst way
syllables and secrets
a tear slides down her cheek
a wasteland gives way to trees
remembering
as real as anything
"hey, sis?"
"yeah, maddy?"
"race ya!"
