Normally, I'd consider myself to be quite exceptional in my sparring matches, but apparently, today, I was either off my game or this new challenger was better than I was expecting. It was frustrating, but also impressive, if I'm being totally truthful. After our match, I decided that perhaps he could help me with something. I wasn't entirely sure what type of person he was, so asking could be a big risk, but it seemed like it could perhaps be a worthy risk.
"Hey, mind if I talk to you outside about something?" I asked him after our match.
I didn't want him to be afraid that I was going to try to mug him for winning our match or something, but I wasn't going to say anything beyond what I'd asked him quite yet. Besides, if he was afraid of getting mugged, he wasn't right for the job. You couldn't be afraid of much to help me out with what I needed.
See, I'm part of a gang, and we get up to some thing that probably aren't considered the most ethical sometimes. This one guy from an opposing gang decided he was going to threaten to rat me out for killing his buddy. He claimed he was going to spill to the Peacekeepers, and even if I didn't entirely believe him, I'd rather silence him than take the chance.
Now, why hadn't he said anything yet? Well, he'd offered me a deal. He'd offered not to say anything if I offed one of my own people. One of the people in my gang, which obviously wasn't going to happen, but I'd told him I'd think about it. He was giving me until tomorrow night to decide, or he'd give up the info he had on me. I wasn't going to let him make it that long, though.
I needed him dead. The thing is, I knew that anywhere I'd find him, he probably wouldn't be alone, which meant that I probably shouldn't be alone either. That's why I needed someone. Someone outside my gang, though, given the situation. That's where this sparring partner of mine came in. If he was able to beat me in a match, then I believed he could hold his own in a real fight.
I just had to hope that I was right, and that he wouldn't turn down my offer and decide to hand me over to the Peacekeepers. That would just make this situation a hundred times worse.
