honey, district ten | fin

Mama named me Honey because the sun set on Ten when I was born, and all the warm colors in the sky reminded her of what honey tasted like. I guess that's an odd way to be named, but I thought it was quite fitting. She saw the world in a technicolor lens, everything so much brighter and peachier and picturesque. I think I got that from her, it's why I wake up with a rosy smile on my face and why I wave to everyone I see when I'm out and about and sometimes my cheeks start to ache from doing it so much, but Mama says that it's a good thing, a good pain.

When I was a little girl, with dirt under my fingernails and my hair tied into tiny pigtails, she told me I had a soul like summertime and even though I was too young to know what she meant, a bright smile still grew like a rosebud on my face because it felt like something I was supposed to smile at. I always tried to find the good in things, find the rays of light that make my fingertips feel warm and causes them to tingle in all the right ways.

I guess that's how I get through life, marching to the rhythm of my heartbeat with a sunny smile. I was my mother's daughter after all.
