STRAUSS FAMILY.

On the edge of District Two, sits a house that was once famous for the Career kids it produced. As time went on, and the names faded to dust the Strauss siblings felt a desire to reignite a flame. Over a few years, they rounded up 12 kids from orphanages all over District Two. Victor wanted the kids to be lethal, relentless killing machines. Octavia was one of the finest and most beautiful Careers to grace the District Two training Centre, demanding the room with her personality. Killian was smart, deadly and capable of formulating terrifying plans quickly. He was a strategist, who could understand the inner workings of anything, brawn and brains. Thus, they decided that the children would also be the prettiest and brightest kids around. Well-rounded, desirable, and strong, an image of what the siblings strived to be, what they deemed to be the best way to hear their name chanted by the Capitolite crowds.
After the first four years of training children, it became evident that there was something sinister beneath it all. At the end of the fourth year the Strauss siblings gathered their children, informing them of a new system that would hopefully encourage some more motivation. They would be scored from now on, based on their looks and talents, measured by their training and skill. At the end of each year the two lowest-performing children would be put into a ring.
Only one would come out.
If you were the lucky one to survive you were given another chance - a clean slate for the following year. And another child is grabbed from the orphanage and added to their ranks.
The Peacekeeper’s look the other way, having made an arrangement with the Strauss family. The Peacekeeper’s get free pick of the aged-out children, deciding if they want you amongst their ranks or if you’re worth nothing to them. If you impressed enough you were given to the Peacekeeper academy, if you were a failure you were kicked onto the street. On a rare occasion the Strauss siblings will offer a child a position as a trainer of the future kids.

But the last five years had brought change with the Strauss traditions. With Octavia Strauss taking her place as the mayor of district 2, the fighting ring, and the ruthless training that their children were forced to under go, had taken the back seat. Octavias hunger to be a queen, to rule more than just her mansion, had caused her to lose sight of her family, and Victor and Killian had slipped in their duties, excited at the thought of the Strauss name finally being elevated to a station they deserved- especially after the embarrassment that Meredith Strauss brought to their name.
But Victor had had enough, and with Killian by his side, the traditions that had been forgotten would once again be ingrained into his families memories. The fighting ring would re-open, and each year at least one death would take place. He would weed out the weakest in district 2, starting with his family.
It was time he reminded his children what it really meant to be a Strauss, and once again blood would stain the bricks of the courtyard, and death would haunt the halls.
