previous bio linkFrom the time he was born, his family expected a lot from him, and every day, Genesis tried to meet those expectations. Before he even understood what was happening, his parents placed him in the training academy because they wanted the best for their son. All they wanted was for him to bring home the honor and glory they were never chosen for, and they were too slow to volunteer for. All they cared about was the riches that came with winning, and they wanted him to provide that for them. For the longest time, he tried his best to please them. Every single thing he did was for them. His life was devoted to pleasing them and making them happy, that he forgot to care about himself.
But soon all of that changed.
Making his family proud has slipped out the window, and telling them his goals have changed crushed them in a way he never imagined, but it was more than a let down. If it wasn't for his younger sister standing in the doorway, Genesis feels as though they would've taken matters into their own hands. For the first time in his life, he was afraid of them. Afraid of what they could do. Afraid of what would happen if he went down the path he was working on choosing, and as a young teenager, he never wanted to let them down. He never wanted to live a life different than theirs, but it was a change he had to make. Unfortunately it only came recently.
Now that he's older, and is capable of making his own decisions, Genesis spends a lot of his time in the water swimming or surfing. While he never found the joy in fishing, he still hangs out with his friends while they fish. Sometimes he purposely scares the tiny fish away because eating them is wrong. Eating any sort of animal is cruel because they all deserve to live, but at the same time Genesis realizes that he's outnumbered, and pushing the fish away will only cause them to never invite him again. Making friends isn't an easy task. In fact, he had to learn to check his ego. At one point he truly believed he was better than everyone else, but now, he knows that isn't the case. Everyone can fall. Even him.
Getting there took a lot of work, yet it all started falling into place. It took years of pushing his friends away before it finally clicked. While training and striving to be the best isn't a bad thing, saying that he was the best, that he was the greatest person ever alive and nobody could ever dethrone him was. Training went to his head. Nobody wanted to be around him. Not even his own sister. But his parents were proud. They were pleased with how things were going, and they knew that Genesis wouldn't let them down.
He still enters the training center a couple of times a week to make sure his strengths are still where they need to be, and he focuses more on his weaknesses as well. Things he never cared for like first aid or plants or fire making never came easy which he why he spends time working on them. Simply waving a weapon around won't keep him alive in the hunger games - he's watched many careers fall several times, and he can only assume they thought that way. It's not how he wants to go. Genesis wants to be the very best, but at the same time, mastering all the skills is more important.
One of the hardest things to learn is accepting a loss. Most of the time he would throw a tantrum at each loss claiming he was the best when clearly he wasn't. Being cocky and arrogant came easy, and learning how to stay humble was quite a task. Even now, he still struggles with it, and it comes from his parents unrealistic expectations that he had to be the best, and that he couldn't lose. Not their perfect son. But he's far from perfect, and he knows that. He understands that sometimes he will lose, and it is important to not storm off and throw things. Being eighteen is much different than being a two year old. It's a work in progress, yet he's striving for it.
Teaching young careers is now more important than being the best. Many times he sees young children walking into the training center like he did, and he sees himself in some of them. Some are so full of life, and they have an eagerness to learn and improve when they mess up, but a handful of others are striving to be the very best. They're striving for the career lifestyle, and Genesis makes it his mission to show them there is a different route. They don't have to fight for honor and glory every second they're awake. They can take it easy and focus on what is important. Building relationships with others, taking time to themselves. All of these are precious, and he wishes more than anything he could have these younger moments back. If only he could rewind time.
The most important thing he has learned in life is that it is okay to take time for himself. Going to the beach and swimming in the water or catching some waves isn't a bad thing. It's okay to live his life the way he wants to, and escaping his parents iron fist hasn't been easy, and now he sets out to help others do the same. Sometimes families are caught up in making sure they have the best chance of becoming the greatest family alive, and right now Genesis desire to stop it. Sure, he still trains, but that isn't his main part of life. It isn't his ultimate goal anymore. Defending himself is one thing, but letting it control his mind is another. Getting to this point hasn't been easy, and it has taken time, yet Genesis would do it again if he had to. Every person he helps escape the terror of training every second their awake gives him joy.
He still stumbles and falls and reverts back to his old self, but every day he becomes more at ease. The only thing that matters if making sure he's happy, and he knows the rest will fall into place.
