I knew opening up the district portion of the application pool would have worked! Parents didn't get why they'd send their kids off to a summer camp to do what they already do at home. Sure, they'd get to live in an arena and have the chance to fight real mutts, but that doesn't matter, I guess. They didn't think mutts would ever have the chance to kill their children over another human.
So, I suggested opening it up to the other districts. I'm sure there are families from twelve or eight or six that want to give their kids a leg up on the Games as the career districts do. Of course, we don't have year-round training, but it's something that they can do. But it also provides their kids with a reason to meet people. Who doesn't want to give their child an excuse to make friends, right?
We decided to go for it. It won't hurt.
Okay, well, we've had a bunch of sign-ups. But now that we have so many people interested, how do we get them excited? One of the ideas was to bring everyone to camp and show them the facilities. But while we do have some, we were in the midst of renovating it. We needed more cabins, to get bathrooms in those cabins and also ensure all of the traps that weren't set off got removed. I was telling the others that it'd be a brilliant idea to try and invite the campers to get to know each other. It's our way of getting to know what we've gotten ourselves into as well. We want to do this system where the kids can try and form their own groups and request to get put with people - no matter the district origin. That way, they can have some buddies with them to make the whole sleeping away from home thing not so bad.
It also gave us an opportunity to start handing out our badges. We have a series of badges that we're going to be handing out to campers! They can use the badges to get candy or snacks from our little snack shack that we'll have, or just carry them home as a token of the camp.
So, a few art designs and editors, we have our first pre-camp event! Know Your Pack. We figured we could make it alliance-based, and the career pack is a popular alliance, so it works. Campers and parents are invited to join us in the capitol and talk amongst other future campers. We'll offer virtual tours of our example bunk. Envelopes sealed, letters sent.
It's been a month since we sent those letters out. We now sit in our huge ballroom with all sorts of tables with cards, dice, art stuff to make and a few sample miscellaneous activities scattered throughout the room for kids to try (a rock climbing wall, a zipline). There's a table with food and drinks if anyone gets hungry. All we need is the people.
If we have the people.
We have the people, right?
Welcome to Meet-Your-Pack! A social event for campers to get to know others that are coming. They may end up being possible bunk friends, bunk enemies, or bunk flings! Just make sure that there's no purple! Campers who come and meet someone will earn a I Know My Pack badge! Redeemable at the Sponsor Shack, the hub for all camper needs.
