Today was a big day!
My stomach was dancing with butterflies and I wished I could stab each one of them to stop the waves of nausea that had me clenching my gut. You would think that I was dying, or deathly sick, but that was not the case. Today was a big day because today I was taking Percy on our first date- just the two of us! And it was safe to say that I was shitting bricks, and boy was it painful.
"Dale you are working the grill today! Hurry up and get your ass down here!" Pop's yells from the bottom of the stairs that would lead to the kitchen. Groaning, I run a comb through my hair for the third time that morning. I had old the old man that I couldn't work today! Sure he had rejected it, saying that I was his son and that I was to help the family business blah blah blah, but I was not taking no for an answer. I had told him as much, or so I thought I had. Oh well, I guess he would be finding out this mooring that he was one child short for his child labour antics.
Running down the stairs I run through the kitchen in the attempt to slip past him without so much as a how do you do- "Dale!" He growls fingers locking around the collar of my shirt.
"Pops! Your going to rip my shirt! Its the only good one I own! Let go old man," I growl back, carefully pulling myself from his grip. "I'm not working today, I told ya! Don't you remember or has your memory begun to fade in ya old age?"
"Dale you can't speak to me like that- you need to help in the kitchen. Dale! Dale!" He shouts because I am running fo the door, the bell ringing obnoxiously as it closes behind me. Sorry, Pa.
Walking up Percy's driveway has my butterflies going crazy, my hands balled nervously at my side. I wonder if she would be happy to see me. I hoped that the minute the door open her face would light up with the smile I was dying to see. That smile that would make my heart skip a beat. I knew that the moment I saw her that my mind would go blank, and that I would find myself wondering when I would get the chance to make her laugh, to make her smile. I wanted nothing more than to hear her laugh.
Balling my fist I knock on the door, my fist thumping loudly.
