Tribute Name: Oswald Tove
District: 9
Age: 13
Pre-Games Character Summary: A useless kid who obsesses over drawing cartoons. He uses cartoons and -- by extension, in some circumstances -- jokes to cope with growing up in District Nine's corruptible environment. He never really thought much about the future, and in some cases actively took steps to make his harder (failing school, picking up bad anti-social ideas, etc.), and when he did talk about it it was with a sense of nihilistic spite. That being said, he did have two very close friends with him: Mya and Snuff, two other misfits; they were the sort of group that sat at the farthest corner of the cafeteria and tried not to look at the other kids.

Quick tl;dr of his reaping post: Oz pisses off his friends by acting like he doesn't care if they live or die/acting like life doesn't matter because everyone dies anyway. They all have a good angst together, and then Mya and Snuff propose volun-telling for each other. Oz isn't into it but he agrees. He gets reaped (gasp!) but doesn't volun-tell one of his friends (double gasp!) because he's not a total dick, apparently, and his friends' welfare mean a lot to him.

Character Notes: Raised by a single mother; acts nonchalant but when the pressure's too much, he tends to self-destruct, either through anti-social tendencies or simply giving up, depending on the context; his response to stress can also come across as nihilism or simply not caring enough; doodles to relieve stress; pranks are cool, let's prank people (would rather be having fun than anything else).

Types of themes/story arc you're planning to explore with this character: I'm definitely looking for a "hero's journey" arc. He's kinda like Scott Pilgrim, kind of a useless ass-hole who comes across like he doesn't care about anything or anyone (but he does, a lot, secretly), but then the conflict forces him to step up. One question I really want him to wrestle with is: "What's the point?" And where I want him to find that answer are the moments with his friends especially. His story really isn't about trying to survive the Games really -- while he obviously wants to live, as far as character development, that's really not my focus. Rather the focus is just to find a reason to live with/through the Games, in the time that he's given, when there doesn't seem to be any hope in sight.

Wanted Connections, if any: Someone who can push Oz to be better, whether that's a friend, enemy, or a rival/bully. Could be a good influence, a bad influence..Just someone who can teach Oz something. Maybe even someone to revel in the existential pain, that would be pretty cool. I would absolutely love it if someone could just roast the ever-loving crap out of him, that would make me really happy. As I mentioned before, he tends to relate better with "misfit" types, so if you have that kind of character, they'd probably vibe.
