After the remaining sounds of fighting sounded far enough behind us, I directed the three of us to the a large pile of scraps. It was large enough to protect our backside from anyone leaving the scene of the Bloodbath, "Let's stop, take a breather. Figure out what the fuck we're doing." Once we got there I remained standing, leaning against the scrapheap, and went through my supplies from the Bloodbath, trying to remind myself to breathe. I felt my heart shattering over Celeste still. I remember the day her and I talked when we first got to the Training Center.

She had found out about my letter to Luca. I wasn't sure how to handle that at the time, that was something I never intended for anyone else to read. But I'm glad she read it. She told me about her pregnancy she just found out about. And that's the moment I promised myself I'd protect her as much as I could. And here she was, dead on day one. She died right in front of me. And her killer got away.

Some protector I am, right?

Thinking about it all again, a mix of anger and sadness welled up within me. Not thinking I punched the scrap heap behind us, not caring when the broken metal cut up my hand. I punched it again. And again. And again. And then Ellis stopped me, calling me a dumbass on top of it. He didn't get it. Neither of them got it! They didn't know what was lost! We didn't just lose Celeste we lost so much more. But I couldn't bring myself to tell them, not yet anyway.

"So she's fucking dead... where do we go from here? What do we do from here?"

I tried to pace, but my broken foot wasn't having it. Until I noticed buried under some scraps some bandages, about 15 feet of them. I slipped those into my pocket. They wouldn't do much to fix my fucked up foot but at least I could help my hands... the hands I hurt myself. Damn Ellis is right, I am a dumbass.

"And... are you both okay? I know we should have ran sooner but when I saw Celeste I... I just went for it. I couldn't control myself. That girl from Four better watch herself. Because if I find her..."

Was that a thread or a promise? Honestly I couldn't even tell myself really. I just wanted her to hurt. I wanted her family to hurt. Sure, I told Gabriel that good people make bad choices. But there's a difference between a good person having to do a bad thing and what she did. She was happy about it, she gloated about killing a stranger. She was a bitch, through and through.

Esther finally fell against the pile of scrap- one of thousand litters the desolate wasteland that stretches for miles and miles for as far as the eye can see. Her chest aches and she gasps for air as she struggles to keep herself above the suffocation she felt creeping into her chest. Her whole body craved rest, craved a release from the steady pain that crept through her body from her foot into her leg, her knuckles speckled with thin lines of blood where they had split as she tried to dig her knuckles into that girl who had drive a blade through Celeste's heart.

A sob escaped Esther's lip and she pressed her hand gently against her lips. That wretched girl hadn't even hesitated, she had driven the blade through Celeste's heart without consideration or care and Esther could still hesr the canon ringing in her ears. Esther Carter was someone who could barely hold together relationships, too shy and timid to hold a relationship some days, others too explosive, but there had been something about Celeste that she had found comfort in- and she had watched the girls life slip away like a forgotten baloon, caught in the wind, her finger tips just out of reach.

Her brow furrowed looking up at Peter as he spoke. "What's going on?" Esther's voice was a low hum, a whisper with a knifes edge. "What the fucks going on?! Celeste's fucking DEAD thats what!! She's...she's fucking...dead" Esther's words were like fire caught in the wind, igniting quikcly, but it did not catch and by the end of her sentence her words were bubbling out from her lips shaking.

Pressing the heel of her palm against her eyes, Esther felt her lip tremble. "..we...we need to go...we need to go back..." Esther whispered "...we neeed to go back...bury her..or something.....we...we can't just leave her like that"

But Esther knew that Celeste had been placed in her coffin a long time ago. They all had, they were all laying in their coffins in two straight lines. They just needed their graves to be dug first.

The curtain draws to a close and everything fades to black for a second. A slight minute without anxiety, a calmness that I didn't think was possible in the Hunger Games. For a moment, I could close my eyes and my breaths would fade into a steady rhythm, relinquishing all of the anxiety of the Bloodbath.

That was until the visions of blood pooling around the body of Celeste drowned my brain of all tranquility, the metal rod protruding out of her abdomen as she crumpled to the ground.

I had seen death before, but nothing like this. I had seen strangers meet their end by starvation, but their eyes were glazed over and almost had a sense of peace and relief, like their suffering and fight for survival had finally come to and end and they could finally find nirvana. Celeste's last image of life was chaos and brutality - the few glimpses I caught of her lifeless body just looked like pure terror, the demise no one wished for.

I shook the visions off. I was used to being the strong one - the face of the brave, the kind of face that only if you looked closely you could see falter.

My allies needed that.

"It's too late," I told Esther, as I watched her lip tremble with the emotional burden she had just been dealt, "the hovercrafts have long taken her. We need to just... think, get out of here before..."

I didn't finish my sentence. I let my gaze drifting off into the distance speak for me.

But just like Esther, if you looked closely, my lip trembled with fear. The image of Celeste's limp body held my brain hostage.

But I was the strong one.

And strength was nothing but a mindset.

Ellis was right about two things. There was no point in going back and I was a dumbass. He's on a roll today!

"You're right man, we need to go." I turned to Esther, my eyes getting misty again as they threatened to start crying again, "Esther, there's nothing we can do for her right now. She's headed home where her family can bury her. We need to get out of here before those two come looking for us or Lucien starts feeling brave and stupid."

I wasn't sure if Lucien would attack me or not. The other ones, probably. But I didn't want to really hit him in the Bloodbath. We knew each other from school, not well by any means. But he was a sense of familiarity. And yet I hoped I never saw him again. Because if I saw him after today, I might have to kill him. And I didn't want to do that. Honestly I wasn't sure if I even wanted to kill Parker if push came to shove.

But you gotta do what you gotta do.

I limped over towards Esther, both of us each had a foot that we seemed to be having trouble walking on. How cute, we match. I forced a smile through the pain and the heartache. What can I say? I'm an optimist. "Here Esther, let me help you go... this way. Wherever this way leads. Celeste wouldn't want us to sit here and await our deaths, yeah?"

Yeah I was scared. I was fucking terrified. But I realised what Ellis was doing, he was being brave - or at least pretending to. And if it helped Esther and Ellis for me to pretend to be brave along side him, I would. I was scared out of my mind. There was nothing more I wanted than to hug my parents and cry right now. But I couldn't. So I had to put on a smile and pretend to be brave.

I reminded myself of when I saw Gabriel in the Justice Building. I held him and told him everything would be okay, even if I didn't really believe it. I forced myself not to cry as I held him. I put on a brave face then and I could do it now, at least until we got somewhere safer. And then I'd let it all out. But for now, I pretended to be brave and pretended I knew where the fuck I was going.

Truth is, I'm a dumbass and had no clue what to do or where I was taking us.
