shrapnel.— [ the breakfast club | day one ]

The walk to the towering piles of scrap and metal towering on the distant horizon like a city skyline was long and ardious, the sun lingered in the dusty sky, bearing down. The air was thick, so still that each time Esther inhaled the air seemed to drag in her lungs. Her t-shirt clung to her tiny form, drenched in sweat. It reminded her summer in Three, when the sun would hang over the rooftops of the warehouses and smokestacks, glistening white against the grey sky.

She winced slightly, slowling as they reached the heart of the maze of rusting cars and metal slabs. Craining her neck, Esther peered upwards towards the sky, frowning as she listened to the creaking metal in the late afternoon heat, groaning around them like a sleeping goliath. Hobbling ahead, Esther wandered between the piles, head tilted to the sky; she did not know what she was looking for, but by the time she realised, the others were hidden by the piles of scap metal. 

Scanning the piles of metal, Esther saw something white against the piles of rusting iron and silver. Frowning slightly, she reached forward, grabbing the small squidgy lump from inside what looked like an open tool box. "...what the fuck" Esther whispered, unwrapping the item to see a relatively good looking egg sandwhich, the only downside being the very tiny green splodges that clung to the cheese. Why is there a fucking sandwhich? she thought, shoving it in her backpack. 

"...Not much...just some egg sandwhich.........." Esther called out quietly, turning to look at Peter as she sunk to sit on the ground, her foot aching and burning inside her boot. As she tried to get comfortable, her gaze swept over the piles of scrap, seeing something bright and white, speckled with orange dust, rust, in the sunlight.
