"Gimp squad, let's stop here for a rest," I shouted towards Esther and Peter as I slumped against the remains of a building with a heavy sigh. It seemed like a never-ending journey to find somewhere to camp out for the night. One place was too open, the other was too obvious.

"How you holdin' up, bud?" I asked Esther, who quite honestly looked like shit. She was battered and bruised, limping in slow strides alongside the rest of us. Yet she went without complaint, and I thought maybe that made her the bloody strongest one out of all of us. "I'm gonna be honest, you're not looking too hot."

I took off my rucksack and began rummaging through, pulling out all of the items I had collected over the past hours. Nothing but junk. Just like this whole arena.

I peeled a sticker and began placing them all along my mech, sticking my tongue out in focus. Art was never my thing.

Then inspiration struck, and I sprung to my feet.

"Think fast," I tossed a bottle of spray paint towards Peter with a cheeky smile. "Feel like doing an art project?"

I gestured towards my torso.

May as well make something look pretty in this arena.

I helped Ellis and Esther get their "mechs" in working order and we continued on. Right now our goal was to find somewhere relatively safe for the night as the sun began to set over the arena. I say relatively safe because truth is, none of us will ever be safe again - even the winner. Look at Flynn, last games a friend of his got reaped. Even when you win, the Captiol still finds ways to remind you to keep in line. It's almost better if you just let them kill you, maybe they'll leave you alone. Then again looking at the fact a Le Roux got reaped - even if it wasn't Isaac - maybe not.

Eventually it got to the point we couldn't move any more. Esther and I definitely had a broken foot each and Ellis had a fucked up looking arm. Esther... didn't look good to say the least. I was more worried about her than anything. She needed to rest, keep up her energy so she could heal before whatever the Gamemakers had in store for us tomorrow. Or whatever the other tributes had in store.

After we started settling in and making camp, I watched Ellis decorate his mech as I let my foot rest. He seemed focused, almost peaceful. It was sort of refreshing seeing him like that, maybe it would be the last moment of peace any of us ever knew. It made my heart ache, I wished Celeste was here with us. And then Ellis tossed me a can of spray paint and broke the silence. Luckily I managed to catch it, "What did ya have in mind bud?"

I got up slowly, careful to avoid putting too much pressure on that foot. My mech and pile of shit was sitting next to me, I honestly ended up collecting a bit too much, "Just note I don't do work for free. I'll do whatever you need for your suit, I just need you to carry a few things. Oh and I think I saw some net and a tarp around here somewhere - mind grabbing those too?"

Honestly I would've helped him regardless, and I'm sure he would have helped me. But this way it doesn't feel like we're friends. Maybe it would make it easier if one of us died that way. Maybe it would ease the pain if we were the last two left here and suddenly we had to turn on one another. I was here for the long game, I refused to let myself get far and then suddenly be too weak to carry on. Maybe I'd die tomorrow, but I wanted to be prepared for the day after that and the next too.

Peter offers to do it under the condition that I carried some things for him. I sigh and roll my eyes, but I agreed. He did have a broken leg, after all, and I was the only member of the alliance who made it out of the Bloodbath relatively scathe free.

"Draw a middle finger," I told him, as I traced the outline on my belly, "but like, don't make it too good, y'know? It's gotta look rough, mean, like... don't fuck with this dude, he's edgy."

I knew there was nothing intimidating about me, but we needed some lightheartedness. I was nothing but a scrawny, District Twelve kid and even after gaining weight from being in the Capitol, I knew there wasn't a soul who would try to steer clear of me. I was an easy target. We all were.

But that didn't stop the urge to rebel, even just a little.

"Add a certain je ne sais quois, Mr. Artiste," I sniggered, as I reached out my arms and posed for him, "oh, and write 'FU' too, if you want."

As Esther hobbled along, the exoskeleton of the metal bear suit limped with her as they moved from a disorganised city, into one that resembled an actual town. She tried to pay attention as to where she was, but she could barely concentrate, her head throbbing and her whole body aching too- she should have been used to not thinking straight but she always forgot how painful it was to view the world through frosted glass, her limbs moving on their own accord without the tether between her brain and her legs.

Glancing at Ellis, she frowned slightly. State the fucking obvious she thought to herself as she stopped, stepping out of her mech and taking a seat at its feet, burying her hands in her hands as she tried to steady the world as it seemingly spun around her at 1000mph, as if she were fully aware of the Earth turning on its axis as it hurtled through space. "...i feel like shit.." the young woman whispered quietly, so quietly she could barely hear her own voice. She did not pay much attention to Ellis or Peter as they discussed how they were going to decorate their mech suits.

She just wanted to drift away.
