After the defeated army fled, they dragged their suits as far away as they could before the blood started to dry. They landed on the opposite side of the dusty town and took shelter on the porch of a building. Maze never imagined her skin in such agony because of some goddamn frogs, but here she was, the laughing stock of life. She rolled her eyes at the thought of the Capitol chuckling at her misfortunes. Let them fight an army of horned frogs and see how they handle it.
She had nursed many a wound that weren't her own back in Twelve. Turns out, stitching ones own self was harder. Her hands trembled, and her fingers were stained red and grainy with sand. Kiibo had the worst of it, looking like he would bleed out at any moment. Poor guy was on his death bed, and Maze had nothing to offer but a polite nod in his direction. Everyone was too busy taking care of themselves.
The aftermath was all guts and no glory.
