Tribute vs tribute mandates in the Badlands may opt to have a landship death-race instead of a traditional fight.
If they choose to race, racing dice will take the place of combat dice. The higher the number rolled, the faster the landship moves, but higher rolls compromise the stability of the landship, which can result in damage to the tributes within.
Racing dice:
roll range = 1-10
1: 0 damage; you realize that the wires to the controls you're using have been cut — hope that's not the brakes.
2: 0 damage; this landship sure is slow — does that lever even do anything? Maybe try one of those buttons over there instead.
3: +1 damage to anyone in the alliance not wearing goggles; a bunch of sand shakes loose inside the landship, irritating everyone's eyes.
4: +1 damage to entire alliance; one of the wall panels threatens to collapse, bonking everyone, but you manage to push it back into place without too much trouble.
5: +2 damage to self; you cut your hand on a sharp edge.
6: +2 damage to entire alliance; the button you just pushed sent a minor electrical current through the ship's controls, shocking everyone.
7: +4 damage to self; a small steam release burns you.
8: +4 damage to entire alliance; a large steam release burns everyone.
9: +6 damage to self; a heavy piece of the landship falls loose, hitting you hard.
10: +6 damage to entire alliance; uh-oh... the landship is on fire? THE LANDSHIP IS ON FIRE!
1-10 is the distance traveled. The first alliance to reach or exceed 40 total distance wins the race.
The losing alliance's landship will crash IC, resulting in the death of the tribute with the highest damage in that alliance. In the event of a tie for the highest damage, the tributes will roll tiebreaker dice to determine who successfully escapes the wreckage before it explodes; the highest dice roll will indicate the faster tribute.
Tiebreaker dice:
roll range = 1-100
If a tribute dies before the end of the race then damage consequences will stop and no further death or damage will be required. Tributes may opt to finish the race just for fun.
