Broken pieces of the Junkwall tumble throughout the streets and Badlands, tossed around by lazy gusts of wind. Building facades seem to ripple in the breeze, loosened shingles dancing and unclosed doors swinging freely on screeching hinges. The thumps, thunks, trills, and tattering noises create a rhythmic song in combination with the calls of mutts prowling for their next meal. Perhaps that’s why no one hears the sparking of fallen powerlines until the sky is filled with explosions.
The electrical shortage started small, catching a humble pile of debris on fire… which spread to a forgotten clothes closet… which eventually swallowed up an entire building containing the largest fireworks stash in all of Junktown. What windows remained after the storm are blown out in a massive crackle of golden stars and whistling rainbow rockets. Great round bursts of colored flame devour the sky and cloud the streets with a haze so thick it’s difficult to see your own hands reaching out in search of safety.
Amidst the chaos, the arena’s electrical system attempts to reboot itself, power cycling at unpredictable intervals. Lights flicker on and off as clashing music fills the air, radios blaring, going silent, and repeating the pattern. Even the mutts malfunction, HellKat 09 sensors overloaded by unpredictable signals and some mech pieces of the Gargantuan Land Hermit Crab shells buzzing to life in sudden bursts of sparks that mimic the skies.
Taking advantage of the arena’s technical difficulties, one of the tributes manages to override the communication systems and a static-filled melody plays over the speakers of each tribute’s mech suits. A screech of feedback is followed by: “Good morning, losers! Hope all of you backstabbers had a restful night… NOT!!!”+ The threats are punctuated by pyrotechnic explosions, the voice a crackling boom all its own as one outburst feeds into another.
D3 Esther Carter [Ali]
D6 Lucien Grey [Mattio]
D11 Kareem Hasim [Rook]
The faces of the fallen light up the sky, eyes bursting with colorful explosions and smoke trailing from their lips. Even in death they continue to threaten you, staring down like vengeful spirits… 18 still remain. Are you strong enough?
Congrats on surviving Day Four!
An electrical shortage sets off a massive fireworks stash in Junktown proper. The arena is filled with smoke and fireworks, causing issues with power throughout the arena. Mechanical mutts malfunction and tributes may similarly choose to write about technical difficulties with their mech suit sensors. This event is for IC writing purposes only and does not impact combat mechanics in any way.

Gamemaker Notes:
Mandates end when either a mutt pack reaches max damage or a tribute dies.
+ See the RE for Nowles hacking into the communication systems. Please note that these threats are just for IC fun and the mention of “bounties” should not be taken seriously OOC; actual hunting is discouraged.
*Tribute vs tribute mandates in the Badlands are given the option of a landship race to the death in place of a traditional fight. Please discuss the choice as a group and, once a decision has been reached, let the GMs know which form the fight will take. (Please note that in this instance the duos would need to work together as a four person racing crew in order to keep the mechanic balanced.)
^Tribute opted for double healing and may not flee fights this games day.
∞This alliance was moved at the discretion of the GMs; these tributes may opt to move to the Overgrown Gardens after their mandate is finished, as if their movement was “interrupted” by the fight. They may claim items from Junktown Proper (if they choose to stay) OR the Overgrown Gardens (if they choose to move to their originally submitted location), not both.
CLIMATE
Weather: Fireworks fill the skies, making it difficult to tell what the weather is doing today. The air is thick with smoke and the breeze isn’t strong enough to clear it away. If the temperature relented at all, you can’t tell for all of the fire.
Temperature: 102F/39C
Humidity: 3%
