I found myself in a daze walking through the sprawling badlands once again, my shoulders haunched over as the sun beat down on my battered mech suit. The heat had finally took mercy on us and dispersed, but the mech encapsulated the heat and I felt like I was melting under my own skin.
Burning. The site of burning metal trapping Sven inside, cruelly cremating his body from the outside in. He screams in the distance but I am too distraught to focus on his wails for I too cry to myself. Never had I felt so claustrophobic, trapped inside the forcefield as Isaac watched me, completely vulnerable to his attacks.
Oswald cries as I turn my back towards him, begging me not to go and I could do nothing but keep walking. Did I make the right decision? Should I have stayed?
My fingers caress the sails of the landships, which were battered and bloody from days prior. They carried the wounds of many tributes, most of whom were dead now.
Esther begs for her Papa as she huffs her final breaths, desperately clinging onto life despite Talon's bullet being deeply engraved in her chest.
In my peripheral vision, I spot him.
"Oswald," I cried as he travelled further into my vision, a figure so familiar I could never forget. He looked so much healthier than last night. He survived the night. He's here.
But it's not a good thing. He needs to be free of me. I can't let him - I can't let myself - be the one to end our fight in these games. We can't let this arena steal us.
I hadn't stopped crying since we had parted ways last night.
You're not a monster, Oswald.
"You can't be here," I tell him as I hoist my body onto the landship. "Oswald, I-"
Another figure appears in the distance, an unrecognizable person. "Shit," I say as I scurry to the mast of the landship, gripping the steering wheel into my hands.
"Oz, get out of here," I shout at him, "NOW!"
And then the landship roars to life, and I begin to run from the two boys.p_5l5Pw9L|1-10
