Running for mayor seemed a wise decision at first, but running against a victor made the popular vote difficult to attain. My family was in full support of me, and I had a lot of supporters among citizens in the District, but it just seemed as if Annie likely had more. She was a victor rather than just a parent of a victor, and I think that that was making all the difference. Things still weren't set in stone, but at this point, I was fairly certain that the win was out of my grasp.

I wouldn't let myself give up quite yet, though. Nothing was said and done until the voting part of things was over. That was when we'd really find out where we were at. At this point, it was just time to keep working hard and to wait and see. That was usually what I did in life, though. I'd work my ass off at whatever I did, and wait to see the results. They weren't always in my favor, but damn was I a hard worker, and I was proud of it.

We'd have to see if my hard work paid off or not, and if not? Well, I suppose it'd still be worth it in the end. I got my name out there, after all. It just might not be the bigger of the two names running for the spot. Maybe I could come back and get it in the future, or perhaps even one of my daughters could. Time would only tell.

Marina didn't seem all too happy about my decision to run for mayor, and wouldn't exactly tell me why that was at first. She simply tried to discourage me from running in the beginning, and when I decided to run anyway, went relatively quiet on me, as if she were disappointed in her own mother for trying to pursue a goal. Eventually, I confronted her about it. I needed to know why she wasn't being supportive of my endeavors like her sister Nixie was.

When I asked, it took a while for her to be willing to explain it to me. At first, it was like she was too embarrassed to tell me the truth, or thought that the truth would be too hard on me. I'd taken a lot of reality checks in life before, though, so I knew I could handle whatever it was.

She eventually told me, and I realized that her reasoning made sense. She didn't like a part of the platform I was running because I wanted to employ her for it. Part of my platform was getting better career trainers into our District training centers. The problem in her eyes was, however, that she was one of the people I planned to include. I'd thought it would've been an honor for her to be considered one of the top tier trainers, but rather, she was upset by it. She explained to me that she'd rather stay training the small groups she'd been working with over the past couple of years.

I supposed it made sense, but it still irked me a bit. I just would've thought she'd give me more support, rather than fighting me on it.
