The tributes step back out onto the arena one at a time to a backdrop of their name being boomed over the loudspeaker by the announcer. But that pales in comparison to the roar of the crowd as they take in the new and (allegedly) improved looks of the tributes. Freshly scrubbed clean of the blood of their enemies, faces and horrendous jumpsuits alike now partially covered by antique and rusting yet somehow still wearable armor, it marks a shift in the Games. If the first round was a bloodbath in the most literal of sense, this round will be anything but - a simple duel to the death, fought four times over, until there remains but one standing in each respective section.

Notably, to the tributes, there are three major changes to the arena. First and foremost, the bodies of their opponents have been removed, though the bloodstains (of which there are many) remain. Second, each section, once a single, solid color, has now been bisected - two appear half-red and half-blue, while the other two are half-green and half-yellow. And three, perhaps most disturbing of all, the line of drones has split into pairs, each hovering over the tributes' section and rotating for the entire arena to see.

One has your face on it. So the other, presumably, belongs to your opponent.

Not that it'll make a difference in the end as to who they are - if you are to survive this, they must die all the same.

Where am I? He asks, to no one in particular.

You see, in life you can either fight or fly, and despite not moving an inch Pascal has flown from this predicament as far as he can. He exists on the inside, much like a caged animal, much like Roxanne Burke from District 11 had prophesized. Nothing makes sense when you're 17- even less so when you've murdered someone. Two people, the guard reminds him. He killed two people.

He doesn't even remember it.

It's like it all stopped, the panic flown from his body as he repeated slammed the iron head of his greataxe into the body of Cedar Fenn. Bryony had much nicer a mercy: one clean blown to the head and it was lights out for that punk. Pascal can remember it all so vividly; yet, so distantly as well. They clean and prune him, pluck and wax and model him like the doll he had always wanted. A strange man - Saunders, he said, offered him a modelling job if he survived.

As if his life wasn't on the line. Pascal tried to follow along, performing the best he could but it's too difficult to do more than be alive right now. To get through this all, to bend his mind to try to make sense of how he's to do this; and in a month, be back in school. His skin crawls as he tries to process where he is, but before he knows it, his feet are in the sand again. Green vs Yellow.

"So you must be my opponent," he starts, hands on his hip, line of sand drawing behind him as he meets face to face with a girl named Maya Gomez. From District 3, you see, "I think I can pick you out. I've memorized everybody, and it's a shame it's you," he says.

"You're so pretty, if you weren't in my way, you could have been a model." But if he lives, that life is his.

And he will do anything for it.

He takes a running charge, swinging his body weight with an under cut as he throws himself axe-first at the girl he faces.

If he were any lesser light on his feet, he would have toppled over. The weight of the axe buckles from him, but he catches his footing in the pit of sand with his weapon connecting at the girl's arm. He wishes he had chopped it off, took her apart, left a mark on this girl so he's remembered- even if after death.

They're playing with his head, but make no mistake: Pascal is here to win.

They demand I retreat from the arena, and I go slowly, dragging my feet and kicking at my discarded shoe. The cheers of the crowd chase me and I give them one last lingering glare, spitting at them before disappearing from their sight. As soon as I am out of sight my shoulder slump and my gaze flicks over the body of Ten. My knees shake and I feel the same panic that had taken hold earlier, and my skin feels to tight, and the hands on my body to hot, and the shrill voices of those around me too high. Fingers full at my bloodied jump suit, and I flinch away from them, jumping out of reach, "get off of me you!" I hiss as one tries to close the distance-

"fuck off!" I growl balling my fist to launch at her face painted with makeup so thick that it had begun to crack. But hands grab me from behind and I see the flash of white of peacekeeper uniforms, quickly followed by the ice cold kiss of iron as shackles are placed onto my wrists. The peacekeeper then quickly directs the Capitolites to continue, and they do, stripping me bare before redressing in some flimsy armour that could barely hold off a toothpick let a lone a blade.

My restraints aren't released until my gait re opens, the peacekeeper shoving me out into the arena roughly. Cursing, I stumble, barely keeping my balance. Looking around I notice only one other tribute, the image to my right informed me it was the tribute from 8. Fingers tighten on my spear as he approaches.

"So you must be my opponent," he stands almost casually, hands on his hips as he analyses me. "It's a shame it's you. You're so pretty, if you weren't in my way, you could have been a model." He doesn't wait for a response, lunging at me with a desperation that makes him easily readable, giving my more than enough time to step out of his way, avoiding a fatal strike.

Our eyes connect as I watch him take in the small thin line that had formed on my arm and I see the look of disappointment closely followed by something else that made my stomach squirm. It was almost like a hunger and I lick my lips nervously, readjusting my footing. "Be careful, the last one wouldn't shut up so I stabbed him in the throat."

Aiming my spear at his throat I ready myself to attack, "he just didn't want to give up. It was pathetic really. Bleeding out on his knees and still so sure that he could beat me. But you look smarter than him, so lets make this quick."
