Here is an optional interview you may choose to fill out in response to this thread. Interviews will run from now until the start of the Games. (You may post an interview after the start of the Games, but you will not receive the listed incentive.) Completing an interview is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended.

You may do this in RP style, as if your tribute were actually being asked these questions, or simply fill out the transcript of the conversation.

Unlike last year, Caesar Flickerman is dead. Just kidding, but this year's interview's will be hosted by none other than Sardonyx Crowe! She's wearing a magnificent golden dress that tapers into a mermaid-tail shaped body of armor and a halo to boot.

"No, not really. I was having a lot of fun, actually. Lysistrata makes it difficult to not be in a good mood. Why? Did I look scared or overwhelmed or something?"

"Wh-what? 'What skills am I thinking for my Training Station?' Do you mean the Private Training Sessions we did yesterday?"

"Ah, excellent! And please, what do you think of the other tributes? Are you feeling intimidated at all yet?"

"Hello?? Are you- Why aren't you answering my questions?"

"Tasty! I love talking about the tributes, but... what do you think of the Capitol since coming here? How different is it compared to being back home?"

"Is she a hologram or something? Is this pre-recorded? Why is she-"

"Hahaha! Okay, you have to tell us more. What is it like where you are from? Were you working before the Reaping?"

"This is bizarre."

"And what about friends and family? Romance? Haha, who would you want to give a shout out to right now?"

"Apologies, everyone- it appears there are some technical difficulties. Um, I'm... Not sure what to do here, so I'm just going to- I can stand, right? I'm just gonna stand here, and- Okay! Hello everyone!! My name is Andrew Priest, I'm a tribute from District Eleven. Uhhh, not really sure what that was about, but- oh, stop, applause? you're too kind. Seriously. Why are you clapping, y'all just feel bad for me don't y'all?

Yeah that's... fair. Anyway, uh, little bit about me: I love sports! I saw them building the new Exy arena on my way in- holy shit. I don't know if any of you in the crowd are fans, but the regular-season courts are nothing compared to that thing. It's gonna be sick. Me and my buddies were all planning on doing some drills this summer, shaping up for tryouts next year so we could all make the team.

She hadn’t told anyone about the book. It was against the rules anyway. The ink that was on her body, dancing across her ribcage—five diamonds in black and one in soft pink to mark her failure— the same as the ink with which she signed her name, burns as she pulls the dress for the interview on, the silk kissing the brands.

She was dripping in sparkles—a diamond brought to life, just like Love had been. The parallels weren’t getting any less subtle but like Zeus had said - It’ll put asses in the seats and money in your hands, girl. She blinked, seeing his face over hers, but it's gone in a flash.

Producers run around her, barely risking a glance at her nearly naked form, muttering in headsets, the air thick with perfume and sweat. The smell of money, fear, and champagne. She shrugs off yet another makeup artist. Her face was fine. All of Panem had seen the diamonds marking her body already anyway. They matched Love’s, after all.

Even after years of Formations, with one failure at age fifteen, which she can’t be blamed for in its entirety because it was all Love’s fucking fault for dying, she misses the physical test that they offered. Maybe the Games would be like all of the Formations rolled into one.

Because all of this—all the mind games and the posturing, it was all Love's cup of tea, not her's. She was better at the physical stuff anyway.

She could probably quote Love’s interview in her sleep. She’d watched it last night, for old time’s sake. The way he sidestepped any question he didn’t want to answer and walked Caesar right into the barbed statement about Julian Le Roux, a perfectly dangled carcass that all the masses were salivating over.

Lux smiles and blinks slowly as she’s walked to the stage, tossing her curled hair over her shoulder. Thank all the gods above that they had left it down and had chosen a dress to show off her back, a line of diamonds worth more than all of the money in the lower districts combined dripping down her spine.

She was a Bellisario. She was a Career. She was a girl. She was everything and nothing.

"Now welcome to the stage... eighteen-year-old from District Two, Lux Bellisario.”

Only, she’s not greeted by Caesar.

No, the old man had sung his last song and Sardonyx meets her in the middle of the stage to a chorus of applause. Lux smiles and throws a kiss to the cheering crowd, a hand over her heart as she hears her dearly departed brother’s name ring out in the night before air-kissing Sardonyx and taking her seat, one leg thrown over the other, back straight. She bites back the boredom, arranging a smile on her lips, thinking about how Cordelia had sat here just moments before. The air almost smells like her perfume. Lux would know—she had inhaled enough of it to know the smell anywhere.

"You looked spectacular on the Tribute Parade, tell us…Was it everything you dreamed of?”

“No, it wasn’t,” Lux pauses, licking her lips as she lets the words sink in. “It was better,” she adds, eyes glowing thanks to the thousands of flashes going off all around her.

"Now that you've had time to adjust, what are you thinking?... Do you feel more confident since leaving home?”

“I’ve been here before. The Capitol, I mean. I don’t know if you all saw the little show that I was on last year—Young Love in Panem. I didn’t find my true love, but I think it helped with my confidence for sure.” Lux bats her eyelashes at the crowd, the demure rose with her thorns barely veiled. She can almost believe the lies as the drip from her lips like prophecy.

Keep smiling, keep smiling, keep smiling—the mantra she repeats over and over.

"Ah, excellent! And please, what do you think of the other tributes? Is there anyone standing out as a threat to you so far?

“I can’t give away all of my secrets yet, Sardonyx. But there are so many tributes here that are exceptional. And they aren’t too bad on the eyes if you know what I mean,” Lux bites her lower lip, fanning herself with a laugh, and thinks about blonde hair and blue eyes again.

"Tasty! I love talking about the tributes, but... what do you think of the Capitol since coming here? Moving in yet?”

“If anyone wants to tell my older sister Vanya to make room for me, I’d stay here in a heartbeat.”

"Hahaha! Okay, you have to tell us more. What is it like where you are from? Before coming here, were you enrolled in a career academy?”

Lux bites back the memories of her father, the Formations, of Love and his bravado that all came crumbling down in a river of blood. She was a diamond, damn it. And as Dad always said, death is unavoidable and it is weakness to dwell on it. “My family’s training and traditions go back for years and years. If I told you, I’d have to kill you.” A pause while the crowd laughs. “I think I’ll save that for the Bloodbath though.”

"And what about friends and family? Romance? Haha, who would you want to give a shout out to right now?"

Lux can see it in a flash—the knife that is hugging the inside of her right thigh slipped from its sheath to rest against Sardonyx’s jugular if only to stop these inane questions. It’s gone, wiped away as Lux exhales.

“Oh goodness, way to put a girl on the spot, Sardonyx,” Lux stammers out, her cheeks reddening in a way that she hopes seems genuine. “I think she knows who she is.”

"One last question, it's my favorite one: what is it that you're fighting for in the arena? Glory?”

“I—” Lux falters, because what had Love wanted? What had they been told time and time again? What had been drilled into her head from the very first moment that she could think, breathe, remember? Her palms feel clammy, but she only has to get through this before she can take her mask off in the safety of the darkness of her bedroom. “Honor, “ she finally answers after what feels like an eternity but must have been just a few short breaths that feel like shards of glass in her throat.

“Honor for my brother, Love, his memory, and my family. Always.”

"Alright starbright, unfortunately that was the last question but it was lovely. Any parting words to the audience or those watching back home?"

"Let the games begin."

Lux clenches her jaw enough to give herself a headache as she leaves the stage, eyes set. She bites her tongue, rehashing everything that she had said, every movement she had been up there, every pause, every tick, everything.

She hoped it was enough, that she was enough.

"Of course I was! You guys meet my mum at the reaping, one screaming one, hahaha! This is her dream for me, and right from the moment I could crawl she had me enrolled in those kiddie career and mum clubs."

"And what about friends and family? Romance? Haha, who would you want to give a shout out to right now?"

"Hun, my love life is tragic. And let's be honest, not very secret."

"One last question, it's my favorite one: what is it that you're fighting for in the arena? Glory?"

The interviewer this year is someone different: Sardonyx Crowe. Her name is still a well-known one in Panem, but it wasn't who Quinn expected to be talking to. She was ready for Caesar Flickerman, and now her whole mentally planned out idea of how to respond to things was completely thrown off the rails.

Quinn did her best to remind herself before she went up to the stage for her interview, that nothing in the arena could be as meticulously planned as she'd tried to make so many other things in her life be. It wouldn't be like life back home that was a cycle of chores, schoolwork and time spent with friends and family. There wouldn't be any sort of routine or structure. It would all be an overwhelming amount of chaos, and she would have to be ready for it or die trying to be.

"Now welcome to the stage... fifteen year old from District Six, Quinn Garner!"

There were cheers from the audience and she realized: it was her turn. Dressed in an outfit she actually liked from her stylist, she took her place opposite Sardonyx on the stage. A bright smile that was probably at least a little bit fake was plastered across her face as she greeted Sardonyx.

"It's a pleasure to be here! Thank you for having me," she expressed. Almost immediately, Sardonyx jumped into the first question. If Quinn had to guess, they had a time limit for this interview. She just had to impress the Capitol in whatever that timeframe was: she was here to be a star now. That's all the Capitol cared about before the Games. They wanted the tributes to be the stars of their show.

"You looked spectacular on the Tribute Parade, tell us: how was being styled in the Capitol?"

The first question Sardonyx asked was one that Quinn was only half-ready for. She knew she'd probably be asked about the tribute parade, but... being styled specifically? She hadn't thought about an answer for that. Still, it had to sound good to the Capitol, whatever she decided to say. So, she crafted something quickly.

"Oh, it was wonderful!" she exclaimed cheerily. "When I tell you the Capitol has a sense of fashion like nowhere else, I mean it! The stylists certainly know what they're doing here."

Quinn wasn't a big fan of Capitol fashion, but she had actually liked what she was put in for the tribute parade, as well as what she was put in for her interview, so she certainly couldn't say anything bad about her stylists thus far.

Without really registering what Sardonyx's reaction was to her response, Quinn heard the next question being asked shortly thereafter.

"Now that you've had time to adjust, what are you thinking? Have you come up with a game plan since the Reaping?"

Now, this was certainly a question Quinn had an answer to, but she didn't want to say too much. What was the point in coming up with a plan if you were just going to give it away when your opponents could hear?

"Of course I have!" she told Sardonyx. "I mean, I've always been a pretty meticulous planner, so I have an idea of what I'm planning on doing to make it out of that arena alive."

There was some scattered applause from the audience, and then a response and another question from Sardonyx, seemingly satisfied with what Quinn had had to say.

"Ah, excellent! And please, what do you think of the other tributes? What do you find interesting about some of your competitors?" Sardonyx wanted to know.

Quinn tapped her chin with her index finger for a moment to make it obvious that she was in thought for a few seconds before answering.

"Well," she started. "I'd say the difference in everyone's training styles is interesting to me. Some focus on the combat aspect of things, some more on survival skills, and some on a mix of both. It's intriguing to see what everyone deems to be the most important."

"Tasty! I love talking about the tributes, but... what do you think of the Capitol since coming here?"

Sardonyx seemed satisfied with Quinn's response, as did the audience, judging by their undivided attention that the majority of them were giving.

"Are there any celebrities you idolize? Hoping to meet?" The next question was something she'd studied for specifically, hoping that the studying up she'd done on Capitolite celebrities and famous faces would come in handy. She also felt she knew exactly how to begin her response.

"The Capitol itself is even more stunning than I ever could have imagined, Sardonyx, truly," Quinn began. "As for celebrities? I mean, my biggest idol would have to be my cousin Flynn, but I've already met him, of course. If I were to choose someone else, though, I'd certainly love to meet Mr. Wally Wondull. I've tried some of his chocolate since being here, and let me tell you, it is devilishly delicious," she told Sardonyx, hoping her use of big words made her sound smarter.

That was always the way Quinn had spoken: she used more complex words to show she knew what they meant. She always like when people knew that she was smart, and not just an average young teenager.

"Hahaha! Okay, you have to tell us more. What is it like where you are from? Are there any secret talents you picked up that we should look out for?" Sardonyx's laugh got a blush to spread across Quinn's cheeks as she laughed a bit in return.

"Home is quite different from here, but I wouldn't complain. District Six is what I've always know, and it's certainly a place that makes me happy," Quinn explained. "As for secret talents? Well, what sort of secret would they be if I told you?" She said this with a trickle of a teasing tone to her voice.

"And what about friends and family? Romance? Haha, who would you want to give a shout out to right now?" Sardonyx had jumped right onto the topic of family, likely because Flynn was such an obvious choice for Quinn to bring up. Now, Quinn didn't usually like to cater to the obvious options, but this time, it just made sense.

"Well, I suppose this one's a bit of an obvious choice, but: Flynn, the victor. He's my cousin. I've always looked up to him, hoping that if I did end up here, I could live up to his expectations, so, uh, well, I guess that's my goal. I want to live up to Flynn's expectations, as well as my own, I suppose." Quinn wasn't sure what else to say, and waited patiently for the next question, hoping it wouldn't be as emotional to answer. She didn't cry when she answered any questions so far because she refused to let herself, but that didn't mean they were all that easy to answer.

"One last question, it's my favorite one: what is it that you're fighting for in the arena? Home?"

The final question wasn't going to be any easier, it seemed.

"Home, definitely," Quinn answered. "Home. Family. Myself. Those are all some of the reasons I want to get out of this arena alive. That, and to just keep living my life."

She hoped a simple answer was sufficient enough.

"Alright starbright, unfortunately that was the last question but it was lovely. Any parting words to the audience or those watching back home?"

"The Garners don't go down without a fight. You've seen that before, and I won't be any different. I'm coming home."

The crowd erupted in applause and Quinn curtseyed as she rose from her seat and was brought off of the stage as her interview concluded.

Boys second. That's how it used to be. I'm tribute B, so I'm number two. Cordelia Bardot sweeps across the stage ahead of me and I feel like I'm going to throw up, if I'm being honest.

It's effortless, the way she uses her hands to talk, the way her whole face lights up when she's speaking. Two questions in and it's like Sardonyx is her best friend. It makes my teeth snap against each other as my jaw clenches, my shoulders pinched together with anxiety. I can feel the eyes of twenty other tributes on my back, their gazes tickling like breath on my neck. Swallowing, I wish I had another one of those little pills Niles gave me.

I can't follow her. I can't. I can't. I can't. I can't. I can't. I can't. I can't. I can't—

NOW WELCOME TO THE STAGE... FIFTEEN YEAR OLD FROM DISTRICT ONE, ALICE BALLINGER!

My eyes snap up—I missed the end of Cordelia's interview. Eyes wide, I'm at least grateful I don't have to worry about tripping over the edge of the dress.

I manage a timid sort of curtsy before Sardonyx's gives me that look I know means honey, sit down, and I perch myself on the edge of the little sofa opposite her. Ankles crossed, shoulders back, I find my smile.

"Oh," I clam up immediately. Mother is going to slap me silly if I make it back. "Everything and more, Ma'am."

I hide my hands under the edges of the blue taffeta, look down at the leaping white embroidered rabbits for a quick moment before trying to pull myself back together.

"I've been thinking about coming here for a long time, and it is certainly the place to be."

Now that you've had time to adjust, what are you thinking? Do you feel more confident since leaving home?

My mouth twists a little, and I can feel myself losing hold over the parts of me Mother has spent so long arranging. The knots are slipping.

"Yes," I answer, because I'm supposed to. "It's almost been nice getting to know the other tributes."

Ah, excellent! And please, what do you think of the other tributes? Is there anyone standing out as a threat to you so far?

"I've made a friend or two, actually," and I look out over the crowd with a look of vague chagrin, though I don't actually feel that badly about it. I think it's almost... bashful. I have to adjust quickly. "There's a few I'm looking forward to avoiding once we have to go in."

Tasty! I love talking about the tributes, but... what do you think of the Capitol since coming here? Moving in yet?

I shake my head quickly, tersely. A tiny but firm, "no." I shrug my shoulders. "I have to go home and rub the win in my big brother's face."

A slip, Mother will hate that, too. I'm not supposed to talk about Peter.

Hahaha! Okay, you have to tell us more. What is it like where you are from? Before coming here, were you enrolled in a career academy?

I nod. That's it.

And what about friends and family? Romance? Haha, who would you want to give a shout out to right now?

"Hi Mom! Hi Dad," I say, and I wave. The crowd seems to chuckle.

One last question, it's my favorite one: what is it that you're fighting for in the arena? ...Glory?

"I just want to go home." My mouth feels dry. "I just want to sleep in my bed again. I don't need any glory."

Alright starbright, unfortunately that was the last question but it was lovely. Any parting words to the audience or those watching back home?

"Just... don't forget about me while I'm gone!"

A final plea for attention, begged for in front of a live audience and thousands on their televisions. I pick up the pieces of my smile, pull it together with tape and stick it to my cheeks. As I go, I wave, just a little.

"Oh, I've never felt quite this handsome. I've always wanted to go blonde and get some piercings done, and it was great that your stylists here were able to help me envision that." Insert pre-planned buttering-them-up smile to the audience.

"Now that you've had time to adjust, what are you thinking? Have you come up with a game plan since the Reaping?"

"There's a game plan and road map for everything, Sardonyx. My family back home always had a plan for themselves and a plan for me. Having the independence I've had here is a blessing and a curse. I've got to come up with my own game plan to survive. And it won't be slashing down every person I see. What's the fun in that?... haha."

"Ah, excellent! And please, what do you think of the other tributes? What do you find interesting about some of your competitors?"

"I was actually surprised that a lot of them seem like good people. You'd think walking in that everybody would be an enemy from the get-go, but no, I've seen the good in some of them. Though, I don't think that'll last for much longer."

"Tasty! I love talking about the tributes, but... what do you think of the Capitol since coming here? Are there any celebrities you idolize? Hoping to meet?"

"The Capitol's been very fun. Everyone you meet is like a brand new and bold experience waiting to happen. As far as idols, I can't say I do. I've always heard the goal of the Capitol is to become the idol and not to idolize."

"Hahaha! Okay, you have to tell us more. What is it like where you are from? Are there any secret talents you picked up that we should look out for?"

"My family settles civil disputes in Five. They're judges. I think they want me to follow the same field, so they've gotten me into logic and reasoning and talking, things of that nature. I'm even student body president back at school. The other tributes should definitely watch out because I'll talk their ear off before I chop it off... haha!"

"And what about friends and family? Romance? Haha, who would you want to give a shout out to right now?"

"I've already talked about my family, but my friends? I've got a lot of those. You know, people talk to me a lot. They need things done and I'll get them done, no questions asked. That's what friends are for, right? Acts of service?

I'm thinking of the little boys and girls I gave chocolate bars back in the Reaping. It was their first and they were really scared! I hope now that they're safe for another year, they find some good comfort.

"One last question, it's my favorite one: what is it that you're fighting for in the arena? Home?

"You took the words right from my mouth. Home."

"Alright starbright, unfortunately that was the last question but it was lovely. Any parting words to the audience or those watching back home?"

"No parting words. Because I'll be back soon."

A pause. Sardonyx's eyes flash with judgement, but he doesn't notice as he beams a dimpled smile and a wave at the audience.

"Now that you've had time to adjust, what skills are you thinking for your Training Station? Anything practical?"

"Well, I- I got an idea, but it's still in the works. An idea in progress, eh, a work in progress sort'a deal. It'll be up and riding soon, though."

"Ah, excellent! And please, what do you think of the other tributes?"

A small chuckle. He doesn't respond.

"Tasty! I love talking about the tributes, but... what do you think of the Capitol since coming here? How different is it compared to being back home?"

"There's a lot less blood."

"Hahaha! Okay, you have to tell us more. What is it like where you are from?"

"There's a lot more blood."

"And what about friends and family? Romance? Haha, who would you want to give a shout out to right now?"

"My family." A note of melancholy. "My two brothers, Bryon and Gage."

"One last question, it's my favorite one: what is it that you're fighting for in the arena?"

"Home.

Always home."

"It is everything I ever dreamed of. The stylists did an incredible job of bringing to life the creation they imagined, and being able to live it, and being able to represent the idea and show the world that there's so much more to meet the eye than just another career from district four."

"I do feel more confident since I left home, but I felt very confident before then. My ultimate goal is to make a name for myself. Everyone has to die, and if I die in the hunger games, it doesn't matter. But I like my chances. I like to think that I stand a very good chance of going to the end and bringing the crown home. Most importantly, I feel that I will make a name for myself, and one day the Sinclair family will have the legacy it deserves, and I will be the one to create it."

"Ah, excellent! And please, what do you think of the other tributes? Is there anyone standing out as a threat to you so far?"

"Of course, there's certain tributes to watch out for such as the other careers, but it's also important to look at the ones that aren't in the spotlight because they have just as much chance to sneak by. Looking at previous games, sometimes it's those from the lower districts, and it's a shame that they can even make it that far, yet they earned the title they won. Right now, everyone is a threat until they aren't anymore, and there's only one way to make sure they aren't a threat anymore."

"Tasty! I love talking about the tributes, but... what do you think of the Capitol since coming here? Moving in yet?"

"The Capitol is incredible. It's more than I ever dreamed of. Seeing how people move around, seeing the amazing buildings, the food, everything in here is incredible, and I wish I had the chance to see this before now. I will do everything in my power to make sure I get to see this amazing place again. I'd definitely consider moving here if I had the chance to."

"Hahaha! Okay, you have to tell us more. What is it like where you are from? Before coming here, were you enrolled in a career academy?"

"I'm from district four, so I did a lot of fishing as well as spending as much time as possible at the beach swimming in the waves. It's how I spent what little bit of free time I had. Most of my time awake was spent in the training academy learning to fight, learning to use weapons, learning about various other survival skills needed for the hunger games, or even survival if I ended up stranded somewhere. I spent my time making sure that when my time came, that I was ready to shine."

"And what about friends and family? Romance? Haha, who would you want to give a shout out to right now?"

"I don't really have many friends, and I don't have the best relationship with my family. In fact, none of them even came to say goodbye to me after I volunteered. So why would I give anyone at home a shout out when nobody cared enough to at least have a final chat before I left?"

"One last question, it's my favorite one: what is it that you're fighting for in the arena?"

"As I mentioned earlier, I'm fighting for glory. I want the Sinclair family to have a legacy. I want everyone to remember them, and that starts with me."

"Alright, unfortunately that was the last question, but it was lovely. Any parting words to the audience or those watching back home?"

"Don't pretend to love me if I die. You had plenty of time to love me while I'm alive."

He enters the stage in silent abundance, grief and memories begging to be forgotten clinging to the shadows he casts under the lights.

"You looked spectacular on the Tribute Parade, tell us...what were you feeling, scared? Overwhelmed?"

He's busy counting the way the lights ebb and flow against the black floors, like the entire stage is breathing and waiting to swallow him whole. "Oh, um-" Eyes up and to the gaze of the crowd. "It's like Tune said.. a bit silly." They throw his brand back to him, silence seeping from the audience members. "But the yellow, the yellow was a nice touch, right?" He flicks the yellow canary pin that had been attached to its suit, and in response it seems to flap its wings. The audience members smile like they mean it at that.

"Now that you've had time to adjust, what are you thinking? What skills are you thinking for your Training Station? Anything practical?"

He gulps, swallows, feels it burn and drag itself down dry throat and into shallow chest. "Yeah, practical." His words feel like dead weight against his tongue as he speaks, unsure of what was to come and what already was. "It's not so practical, but I think it's needed. I hope." There's a heartbeat somewhere in the audience he swears he can hear, so loud amongst the silence before Sardonyx cuts it in two.

".....Ah... excellent! And please, what do you think of the other tributes? Are you feeling intimidated at all yet?"

This one he bites at, eyes focusing in on Sardonyx's gaze. "Of course I'm intimidated. I'm from Twelve, right?" They laugh at his pain and what is to be made of him.

"Tasty! I love talking about the tributes, but... what do you think of the Capitol since coming here? How different is it compared to being back home?"

His gaze could cut, a knife laces itself into the words as he looks at Sardonyx, then the crowd, then down at his own hands. There's scars there that will never go away, a permanent layer of soot and coal carved under his fingernails no matter how much his escort tried to scrub it out. The question is a mockery more than a genuine ask, because they all know where and what he came from. They all know what Twelve is. "What d'ya mean?" His voice is static, stoic, cold. "It's just like Twelve."

"Hahaha! Okay, you have to tell us more. What is it like where you are from? Were you working before the Reaping?"

He holds his hands to the sky and feels the stage lights singe his flesh, until Sardonyx glances to them and follows the callouses and scars that press against white knuckles. "Yeah, in the mines." He curls his fingers into his palms, until it feels like coal stained nails will pierce his own skin. "They're pretty unforgiving. Not that any of you would know." He slices into the interview with cold precision.

He's out of his element, Sardonyx knows it. She smirks, laces a knife between her teeth.

"And what about friends and family? Romance? Haha, who would you want to give a shout out to right now?"

Stab into the gut, twist once and then twice until crimson blooms from the source. She breaks him in one sentence and takes the silence as a victory.

"...One last question, it's my favorite one: what is it that you're fighting for in the arena? ...Wealth?"

His eyes drop. "I don't-" And there's a truth that slips from his mouth. "I don't know."

"Alright starbright, unfortunately that was the last question but it was lovely. Any parting words to the audience or those watching back home?"

Too many to say, they burn in his gut with fury and fire. None of them make the cut before he's ushered off the stage.

'Please give a thunderous round of applause for seventeen-year-old CACHIMORRO OLENTZEROOOO!’

A hot light rains down over two of us and spills onto stage. I blink into focus. Maybe I was supposed to tense or get sweaty, fall apart at the sight of all those eyes. But man, felt like I was in my element, you know?

‘You looked spectacular on the Tribute Parade, now tell us... what were you feeling out there, hmm?’

“Sweaty as hell. They put me in this skin tight suit that sucked in all the right places if you know what I mean. Made it look like I could shoot thunderbolts from my hands. It was awesome!”

I leaned back in my seat and let out a wide grin. The armor had made my dong look huge and like my muscles were twice the size of what they actually were.

‘Now that you've had time to adjust, what are you thinking? What skills are you thinking for your Training Station? Anything practical?’

“Listen, I’mma be honest. Two weeks ain’t enough time for me to learn whatever it is they were supposed to have taught me. I’m going to just wing it and hope it works out better than when I tried to make moonshine. That shit had me blind for almost a week.”

Moonshine is no fucking joke!

‘Ah, excellent! And please, what do you think of the other tributes? Are you feeling intimidated at all yet?’

I wanted to say Charlie could choke me, but not because I wanted him to kill me.

“I’m scared as hell! Probably going to piss myself once I get off that podium, you know? Nah – I got two careers that have my back and I’m probably just gonna ride those coat tails as far as I can you know what I mean? Hmmm? Wait, I forget, do they get to watch these interviews?”

Seriously, though, do they really?

‘Tasty! I love talking about the tributes, but... what do you think of the Capitol since coming here? How different is it compared to being back home?’

Oh – now we were on to the trauma porn portion of the evening.

“You ever seen a dog try to climb up on its hind legs? If it weren’t for the crushing weight of capitalism I’d probably already live here. Right? Right???”

I stuck my tongue out with a cheesy grin.

‘Hahaha! Okay, you have to tell us more. What is it like where you are from? Were you working before the Reaping?’

“My man, I got steers and queers back where I’m from, okay? We got cheddar, muenster, swiss, blue, dick and brie cheeses. Not to mention I spend long hours just squeezing out all that milk and making sure it’s all frothed and good to drink. Bit of a messy job but, seems to suit me!”

If I won maybe I wouldn’t have to bust my back to survive, though.

‘And what about friends and family? Romance? Haha, who would you want to give a shout out to right now?’

“Xavier, if you’re watching… thank you for blowing my back out in the justice building. Now, I hop you don’t just set your heart on me because I’m one of the only people that let you put it in my mouth. There’s going to be a lot – I mean, a lot of good dick you can chase now that the travel visa opened up!”

I moved my hands as though I was measuring just how much dick.

‘One last question, it's my favorite one: what is it that you're fighting for in the arena?’

“Me? Isn’t that the best answer? Anyone who says they’re trying to help someone else is just lying. Like – you really gonna sit here and tell me it’s not all about not dying? Get real.”

Fuck that noise.

‘Alright starbright, unfortunately that was the last question but it was lovely. Any parting words to the audience or those watching back home?’

“Hey y’all! Do you like gay shit? You want to make sure you see that in the arena? Send in all your donations to Cachi Olentzero and I promise to make these games so wild you’re going to wish I was dead!”

She strides onto the interview stage alone, microphone held proudly in her hand as if it were a king's scepter. Smiling brightly at the crowd, she feels entirely in her element.

In her worst moments, she wonders what will become of her when the spotlight finally drifts away to someone else, and all the things she wants cease to be possibilities for her. Despite her anxiety, her expression never falters. This is her home, after all. She's manifesting that.

"The incomparable Sardonyx Crowe has requested a short break, so I'll be tackling a one woman show. Not that I mind, it's honestly the next logical step for my career." She pauses the appropriate amount of time for laughter and applause. Her chest feels fuzzy and warm, like she and Morty are walking along the forest edge and she keeps cracking jokes trying to lighten the mood. She knows how to be charming as much as she knows how to distract people.

Maybe she's only tricking herself; thinking about it for too long only gets in the way of achieving her goals.

"What'd you think of my debut look? And I'm not talking about my Young Love In Panem entrance. The next designer to stand in my presence with a pink feather boa will meet the full extent of my wrath. Go ahead and put that on file." She's playing a caricature of herself. If she's going to succeed in the power structure of Panem, she has to adapt to the challenge presented to her. "It's amazing to experience all of this again," she says the words like she's talking to an old friend.

If their opinion was not necessary for her survival, she wouldn't have even showed up.

But it is, and she's already here, so why not? Carly needs them to love her.

"I've been learning so much about myself these last few days. I always considered myself a pacifist, but really, it's not all that hard to swing a sword." She flexes the ghost of a bicep comedically, winking right on cue. "I don't think anyone knows what's coming for them." Which is factual, not arrogant, because not even she has gotten her hands on any insider info on what's awaiting them. Yet.

"That's not to say the rest of the cast isn't stacked. There's quite a few contenders this time around." She pretends to look cautiously over her shoulder, as if someone might be listening in a room of thousands hanging to her every word. Finger to her lip, she shushes them playfully. "But no matter. We all know what the script has in store for them."

It's funny to pretend that she knows what's waiting for her; she's all bravado and gunpower. She refuses to yield to anyone, or anything.

"Seriously, does anyone here know of any good realtors off the top of their head? Because in a few weeks time I might just consider relocating here. I already quit my old job back home, and then got respectfully disqualified from my most recent gig." She chuckles at the drama of it all, as if she's not laughing at the shambles of her own life. None of this is worth being proud of, and yet she has the audacity to keep grinning.

"To my family back home, I'll be in soon to visit. To my friends, to Morty, I'll never forget my roots." The lights are blinding this close, the cheering sounds like the drumming of her own heart. "And we'll solve all those mysteries we missed out on," she says this line a little quieter than the rest, aware that she is nearing the end of her time.

"And to the fans, to all of you watching, I hope you're ready for a show."

She hopes she's ready for it, too.

He rolled in his sleep, groaning as a crick in his neck pled for him to find a better place to lay. His limbs ached- the good kind, the dull kind -as he tried to pinpoint when he'd finally called it a night and returned to his temporary holding cell. Only, he wasn't in his bedroom; he was curled up around a console meant to teach plant identification. He'd only ever known orchids.

I'm sorry, I'll get better.

He hears his brother's warning again, fingers dancing gently over the scar that carved it's way down his cheek like a tear that had burned.

"You'll have to if you ever want to leave."

I know.

He grumbles again, but knows it's better to look professional around these people. The clock read-

"WAIT, WHAT?!"

His eyes shoot open abruptly as his limbs try desperately to catch up with his racing thoughts. Absolute idiot, idiot, idiot. There was crust in his eyelashes, drool dried upon his cheek, and he could tell without looking at his reflection that his hair was sticking up at odd angles, a perfect nest for an errant rat who wanted to learn how to cook, he supposed. His mother always loved telling that story. Before-

He was getting off task; he needed a cup of coffee. Maybe five cups.

He knew running down the corridors would make him look frantic, less poised, more like a scared little boy than a future victor, but the fact of the matter was:

He was so incredibly late for interview day.

So much so that when he gets to the stage Ms. Crowe is already announcing the District 11 tribute.

December didn't like to curse, but the realization that all the practicing, all the rehearsed lines and witty quips and well-timed smiles he'd been saving up since he was twelve years old were all for nothing?

Well, he can hardly breathe.

"What the fuck am I going to do?"

"mirror mirror, tell me something - can I stop my fall?"
