Here is an optional interview you may choose to fill out in response to this thread. Interviews will run from now until the start of the Games. (You may post an interview after the start of the Games, but you will not receive the listed incentive.) Completing an interview is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended.

You may do this in RP style, as if your tribute were actually being asked these questions, or simply fill out the transcript of the conversation.

(The form is optional; you may create your own if you so wish to do so. For the 92nd Games, Caesar Flickerman is back and better than ever, sporting a ruby red wig and a matching suit of the finest black silk with sparkles.

"Oh, thank you very much, Caesar! I felt wonderful! Confident, as per usual, of course. When have you not seen me beaming with confidence?"

How confident do you feel about the games now that you've seen your Training Score?

"As I said before, Caesar, it's quite difficult to take away the confidence I've felt the entire time I've been here. To be totally honest, my training score is something I'm not concerning myself with all too much. I don't think it's the most important thing here. The most important thing is how well I perform in the arena, if you ask me."

What about the other tributes? Intimidating? Interesting? Irritating?

"There's been a mix of interesting, irritating and others who are relatively easy to bypass when it comes to looking for threats. There aren't many other tributes I've spoken to that I consider to be on the same level as myself, but those that I think are, I'm quite excited to be in competition with."

What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?

"The most impressive thing? I would have to say, probably the food. Despite the money my family has back home, we don't quite get this level of luxurious meals. I'm impressed, which I'll say— it's quite difficult to impress me."

Tell us what a typical day in your shoes is like back home. Do you work? Do you have any hobbies or secret talents?

"I spend a lot of time studying things that would help me in the Games, but I can't tell you what, of course. That would just spoil the fun."

What about romance? Cute as you are, I bet there is someone back home waiting, right?

"Oh, yes, of course I have someone! My boyfriend, Rafe, is the sweetest guy I could ever have met. He's wonderful, really."

And your family. Sensitive subject, I'm sure, but... could you tell us about them?

"Of course! Not a problem at all. I've got a twin brother. His name is Arnav. He's more of the soft and gentle type than I am. I also have a sister, Abha. She's a total sweetie as well. I suppose I'm the one who got the tough side. Oh, and I have my parents, too. They're not around as much as I'd like, and I love her, but my mother has always been a bit stubborn and strict, while father's always been my supportive rock. He's always there for me with whatever I want to do."

I want to know: What is it that you'll be fighting for in that arena? What is it you want to get back home to?

"Well, I'm fighting because I want to be here. I want to win. I want that victory: all the fame and glory."

"I'm ready to show you all that I'm worthy of coming out of this arena alive, as the victor! Get ready for Anika Khan, the next soon-to-be victor!"

"Oh I ate, point blank. I was- y'all- I was feeling sexy as hell that day! They did my hair, I put this lotion on so that I was literally glowing, my shoes were cute- it was a serve. Plus I kept drinking my prop, so I was blasted by the end of it."

"I mean its literally people killing people, so like I don't think the number matters? Like no shade, but it's like, okay you got a 12, bet, but are you trynna go in there and really fuck around and kill people? Not everyone can, you know- that's some scary shit, but like, if the question is like 'Am I okay with killing bitches to get to the top,' like, yeah, but I'm not trynna be shady about it."

Speaking of: what about the other tributes? Intimidating? Interesting? Irritating?

"I literally just hope another girl wins if I don't because the boys are all lowkey boogers pretty much. Not all of them- there's some cute ones, but it's like... really? Like in my opinion the girlies this games are literally all slaying so much harder in comparison already."

What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?

"Y'all got money money. Like that's the kind of people I'm trying to hang out with, you know what I mean?"

"Boring! Literally only volunteered to get out of my physical science final. Kidding, but seriously I already, like, planned on moving out here eventually, you know, once the plague settled down because I'm not trying to catch nothing. This just sped things up."

What about romance? Cute as you are, I bet there is someone back home waiting, right?

"Why? You trynna fuck? Sus..."

"Okay, so like literally it's like me, my mom, my dad, my grandma, and my little sister Gabby. I also got a older sister but we don't really talk to her cuz she fist fought my mom at my grandpa's last birthday before he died... Yah, anyway but like other than that though, it's been good, like it's been chill."

I want to know: What is it that you'll be fighting for in that arena? What is it you want to get back home to?

"Literally the win? Like, what are you expecting people to say? Second place? New friends? I'm not trynna win and go back and live in Eleven, sorry to yall but no thanks, I want a big house in the Capitol with a nice pool and the same exact brand of pillows yall put on my bed in every room."

"I'm literally not ashamed, y'all please sponsor me because lowkey I don't wanna go in there and be, like, the underdog. Like, I'm trying to stay looking this good at least until I can pay to look better. Even if it's just, like, some cute underwear or like one of those pens with the fuzzy erasers, or oooo some perfume, but only from Petalite Productions in District One. You can also sponsor me some cute clothes, but only in purple, white, or like baby pink, and no denim unless it's low-rise because I'm literally 4'9 and high-waisted clothes make me literally look like a batty old lady going shopping in a market. Sleeves are fine but I like my chest to be open... Oh, and like also some gum because like nobody ever brushes their teeth out there and that's fucking disgusting? Like, it's giving no hygiene on national television? And I- What? Oh. Okay, well anyway, I'll send out the rest of my wishlist tonight before bed. Wish me luck!"

Flickerman looks tired. It’s in his eyes.

I mean, I thought the dude had retired, but they dragged him back. Guess he’s got that irreplaceable flair. What is he now, pushing 75? He’s been doing this gig for at least 40 years with a couple breaks here and there. Couldn’t have been much older than me when he started. The suits not half bad though. Black silk. Man’s got taste.

Or at least his stylist does.

"Please welcome Katrina Sykes of district 4! Now tell me something, what were—"

“Yeah, yeah,” Fuck dude, let me sit down first. The seat isn’t all that comfortable, but maybe that’s cause I threw myself backwards into it haphazardly. I put my feet up on his chair and yawn. “Parade. Real fun. Costume rode up in some bad places, lemme tell you.” There’s some laughs in the audience as they watch me mime readjusting my current outfit.

Morons.

“If you like, I could loan you some of my chafing cream, it does wonders for my thighs after my cardio workouts!”

I watch this old man in the red wig and shake my head in grudging respect. Ol’flickerman doesn’t miss a beat, does he? He’s probably seen it all over the years. Ain’t nothing a tribute can say he can’t recover from. “But we’re not here to swap workout tips now are we? We want to know all about you! For example, what are your thoughts on your training score?"

I shrug.

“It’s just a number. Pretty sure anything can happen. Hell, didn’t a blind kid with a score of 3 win back in ancient times or something?” Caesar laughs and I imagine strangling him slowly, like letting helium out of a balloon. Bet that’s what it would sound like, his annoying guffaws slowly weakening with every squeeze.

“Quite right Katrina, can I call you Katrina?” He doesn’t give me a chance to say no. “But that’s all in the past. What do you think about your fellow competitors? Any in the running to cause an upset like the one you just described?”

“Fuck if I know. The ice cream man or the nerd from 5. Smart money is on a Fray myself or the Mayor’s kid from 2.” I mull it over for a moment before grinning. “Course, if I was allowed to bet, I’d put cash on Jack Price.” I mean, gal’s got the whole package. Fiery, attractive and short enough to carry. Guess my thoughts are easy to read cause the old man changes tack right away.

“Oh, interesting! Could it be that Katrina here has her eye on someone? Could this cause problems back home?” He looks at the audience with a wink and a look of mock surprise, holding his hand to his stupid glistening face and I roll my eyes.

Coach mentioned this. He said the Capitol isn’t as bloodthirsty as they were 20 years ago. What’s in vogue is manufactured romantic narratives. The viewers at home just aren’t happy unless there’s something to tug at their heartstrings. The ratings skyrocket when there’s heartache and then break.

Which—is kinda fucked when you think about it. Why are a bunch of grown ass adults obsessed with watching kids kiss while they speculate whether or not they were banging in the training center? Newsflash, get a life and stop perving on adolescents. Fuck, makes me wonder if the rumors that victors get rented out to those who can afford it are true.

Nah, that’d be too fucked, even for the Capitol.

I shoot Caesar a lopsided grin.

“Caesar my man, when I get home the girls are gonna be lining up, but no, there’s no one yet.”

He nods knowingly with a frown he’s perfected over the decades.

“Ah, at the very least, you do have family waiting for you? After all, you volunteered for your younger sister, didn’t you?”

“What, did the same last name give it away?” I respond with a scowl that melts back into that lopsided grin. As much as this nonsensical frilly bullshit annoys me, I know it’s all part of the game. I can play it. Having a temper doesn’t mean I’m stupid.

“Well, I take it she means a lot to you; is that what you’ll be fighting to get home for? Your sisters?”

I laugh without meaning to.

“Ain’t nothing matters but the crown at the end of the line. Glory. What better reason is there?” He can’t give me one. Not without making it sound like I shouldn’t aspire to win because that’s what careers do.

“Well, Ms.Sykes this has certainly been illuminating. Is there anything else you’ve like to add before our time together comes to a close?”

Have to hand it to the old man, he knows how to make sentences longer than they need to be. Uses up just a little more air time. My shoulders shrug out of reflex.

“Not much. Just that I’m gonna give the people what they want.”

And as I say that I stand up to my full height, striking a classic bodybuilder pose and flexing hard.

It’s just another competition. How hard could it be?

Oily. I was feeling oiled. It still hasn't all come out. See, behind my ear? Absolutely nasty.

There's no way to answer this question well. Of course they're intimidating. Some of them have trained most of their lives to learn how to most efficiently dispatch me. And some of the others have natural talents that I can't contend with, physically. But I hope they're also at least a little wary of me after a week in the training center. Respectful. I want to be respected.

What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?

How clean it is. I mean that genuinely. Everything only looks sanitized, it smells crisp too, like rubbing alcohol. There's obvious care and respect put into keeping the places as disinfected as possible. I appreciate that. Everyone should take such care with their living quarters but most people are lazy slobs.

Tell us what a typical day in your shoes is like back home. Do you work? Do you have any hobbies or secret talents?

Yes. Obviously. I was just a contender at the District Six Science Fair. That was the first time I crossed District lines, and then I was reaped just a short time later. My hobbies are my work - mostly in experimental chemistry but I'm still studying science broadly. I want to learn as much as possible while I'm still young enough to retain the information.

What about romance? Cute as you are, I bet there is someone back home waiting, right?

No, there isn't. I hope there won't ever be.

And your family. Sensitive subject, I'm sure, but... could you tell us about them?

Most of my family is gone. My Aunt takes care of me. That's... that's all I'm going to say.

I want to know: What is it that you'll be fighting for in that arena? What is it you want to get back home to?

I'm on the cusp of adulthood, of freedom. I'd applied for several grants upon my return to the district and I was almost guaranteed at least one of them. I could fund my own research, explore the boundaries of chemistry or whatever other field I choose to tackle. I have theories to prove and disprove and I need to be back in Five to do that.

"Caesar, you old dog!" Akira exclaims with a disarming smile as he takes a seat across from the legendary host, "What morgue drawer did you crawl out from?"

He makes sure to twist his tone just enough to turn what should have been an insult into a joke. Akira's been playing this game as long as he can remember, his private school back home a breeding ground of barbed tongues and kids too smart-mouthed for their own good. The crowd's too busy cheering at his arrival to have properly heard him, but there's a smattering of laughter in the first couple rows.

"Your vacation did you well, you're glowing," he says. Always pad the insult with a cloying compliment. "But we've missed you!"

Caesar chooses to smile back good-naturedly, as if he's sharing a secret with Akira meant only for him. Then he turns towards the crowd, as if to let them in on the joke. "Who's running this interview here? You or me?" he says with a laugh, "But seriously, always a pleasure to have a District Nine tribute on my stage, you never quite know what to expect," The crowd laughs with him, they love him.

He's been doing tribute interviews as long as Akira can remember but longer than that still, to the point that it really doesn't make sense. The Capitol doesn't work within reality anyway, they bring kids back from the dead just to kill them again.

Akira stares at the man. This close, it's easy to see the wrinkles beneath his makeup, caked on heavily like most capitolites. Sweat drips down his forehead, down the side of his face from the heat of the stage lights. His wig sits a little bit crooked on the top of his head, there's an eyelash on his cheek and a makeup stain on the lapel of his shirt.

Just a man, too human to be anything but.

"I'm glad we're so memorable," Akira says, tone playfully dry, "But please, don't lump me in with those guys, I'm no boy scout." He hooks his thumb at the wings, where he left Avriel and Storm.

Then Akira turns and winks at the audience, resulting in loud, whooping cheers. He has them eating of his hand already, it's too easy.

"Of course! We love you for who you are Akira, and we wouldn't have you any other way! Am I right?" Caesar gestures at the crowd, asking them to chime in as if they've been silent this whole time. It makes them feel involved, important even. "Now, we haven't much time so let's just jump right into it," the aging host says. The lighting dims around them, the spotlight directly overhead of Akira brightening to set the mood. "Tell us: What is it that you'll be fighting for in that arena? What is it you want to get back home to?"

Akira sits there quietly for a moment, then shuts his eyes and shakes his head, as if too emotional to speak.

"Honestly, Caesar," he starts slowly, "I have never been so happy in my entire life, until this week." It's not a total lie. "The only ones I'm fighting to see again are all of you!" He gestures out as the crowd and they react perfectly with a gentle sound. "You're my home now."

Caesar stares at him for a long moment and Akira stares back, unflinching. He can't tell if that's respect in Caesar's eyes or disgust.

"How moving," Caesar says finally, "What a beautiful sentiment, I only wish we had more time to learn more about you but I'm afraid we've almost run our clock. Any last words?"

Akira stands and gives the crowd a bittersweet half-smile, as if he's so sad to say goodbye.

"Dream of me."

"I believe that things are always capable of improving. Sure, this place is great and all, but imagine how it'll be when there's posters of me everywhere. My victory tour will be one for the legends. Just wait and see."

"Caesar, my priority has always been to win the Hunger Games. Don't ask such an outdated question. Relationships are on the backburner when it comes to winning my crown."

"Just go and watch a couple reruns. We're something of a common occurrence. You won't find a family more dedicated to the Games than the Frays. And, yes, Justice is my cousin. And also, yes, I could beat him in hand-to-hand combat easily."

Do you want to say anything to them right now? —

"You're two games off, Caesar. Are you feeling well? Old age is a cruel, but inevitable. Hell. Maybe I'll make the people I kill tell me thanks before I slit their throats."

"I felt like I belonged up there. There was nothing stopping me from showing off exactly what I got to give to these games. Sure, the bottom of the outfit felt slightly clunky, but you guys couldnt see the slit in the tail that allowed me to stand up straight. I felt beautiful and vicious all at the same time."

"I havent interacted with them much to be quite honest. I havent wanted too. I would rather do this on my own, there is no need to be bogged down by a bunch of people that probably arent going to make it far anyway right? "

What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?

"Yall have fancy showers. Thats pretty much it. Nothing beats the quietness of the water at home, and while this place can mimic that sound, I do not feel like any of it really brought me any joy. The food here is decent and I would kill to get a pair of clothes that I could take with me once I walk away as the victor of these games."

"You guys will see what I can do the moment I set foot in that arena. Thats all I am going to share, because a real killer doesnt have to give you a play by play. I want to let me art speak for itself."

"Thats also a big fat no. I am too different for the people back home. Some people actually think I wear a little too much black for their liking. I train with careers. The moment you show one up, is the moment everyone turns on you because you are seen as too strong. So definitely no romance in my future."

"Family is family. I told them I would come back. That is all there is too it. We all know what the hunger games are, and we have made our own version of peace with the fact that this is my chance to really shine and show Panem what I can do."

"If I win? Peace and quiet. If I die? I hope I make my mark on the arena in a way that people in the future will still be talking about it. Elle Aye is a name you dont want to forget, win or lose. "

Cash looks towards the interview, then through him, as if he's chewing on an answer that seems adequate to the question. Then, a smirk, forced and painful and everything in between. "Well, I can say it was the most attention a guy like me's gotten in years. The butterflies in my stomach still haven't died."

How confident do you feel about the games now that you've seen your Training Score?

He gulps, swallows dust and dirt and the failures of a branded Five on his back. "If I said next question, would I get in trouble?". The joke lands clumsily, a scattered laugh here and there before it fizzles into nothing.

What about the other tributes? Intimidating? Interesting? Irritating?

Everything and more, a voice inside his head rings out. They're cattle, sheep, moving in herds before being forced to turn on one another. What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?

"Well," He starts, and thinks of what used to be, what always was, what was home. He knows the answer they want. "It sure beats the ranch back home by a fuckin' mile." His interviewer recoils in mockery, as if he hasn't heard worse, seen worse. "But I'd say the food is a bonus..."

Tell us what a typical day in your shoes is like back home. Do you work? Do you have any hobbies or secret talents?

"Well, I wake up." They laugh at that like it's obvious, like his days weren't struggles at best. "Most duties are on the ranch. Takin' care of the animals, makin' sure we're gettin' whaat we need from 'em.." He gulps, swallows. "A lot easier before we lost it.", bitterness bites at his tongue.

What about romance? Cute as you are, I bet there is someone back home waiting, right?

"Well, motorcycle boy's got a good look goin'.." He admits sheepishly, feels his cheeks blush as if he's not faking it. "But this is the Games, mate. We know how it ends." It's bitter just like the first time he said it.

And your family. Sensitive subject, I'm sure, but... could you tell us about them?

There's a long silence, then some more. Gaze dips, then centers. "Pa always said family is everything, right?" He stammers. "Good thing there's no family here anymore."

How about the person who voluntold you? Do you want to say anything to them right now?

"You're a couple Games late there. Check your cue cards." The crowd laughs in abundance.

I want to know: What is it that you'll be fighting for in that arena? What is it you want to get back home to?

"Well..." He chews on the thought, only for a moment. "Nothing left to fight for but myself."

I'm afraid we're almost out of time. Parting words to the crowd? The tributes? Your friends and family back home?

Cash Humboldt rises from his seat, dusts the bad thoughts off of himself. "Wish me luck." He says to the crowd. He needs it.

"Ehhhh who gives a shit? It's a number that's meant to determine your worth. Big fucking whoop. I'm sure the gamemakers couldn't give two shits about anyone who's not from a career district or worth their time. Being underestimated is the best position to be in. So fuck it."

"What about the other tributes? Intimidating? Interesting? Irritating?"

"You'll have to watch to find out. They're all interesting in their own manners."

"What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?"

"The Capitol is a shining jewel in a sea of just shit. I love the place and am going to be back here soon enough. The fucking place is just outright perfection and it's nice to finally see the place. All of you do a fucking phenomenal job of being hosts."

"That's a secret. I can tell you that I'm not just your ordinary Twelve. I do a lot of important things that I can't let others find out. If you want to know, just wait until I make it out. Though, I do have a fucking beautiful job and make enough money to buy out a lot of the shitholes in Twelve if I felt like it. Sometimes it's better to leave it to the imagination."

"They all wish. I've got no one waiting for me back home. I'm single and always ready to mingle. Get in line though, there's plenty of Finn to go around."

"I've got a brother. He's very, I don't know, normal. I trust him not to lose my shit while I'm gone. I'll see you soon, Lil' Vinny." Gotta wile him up while away.

"I want to know: What is it that you'll be fighting for in that arena? What is it you want to get back home to?"

"Fighting for? Ha. I'm going to be fighting for myself and the Capitol of course. Who cares about Twelve. Not me. I'm here to set a mark on the map that Finnagan Davies is going to fuck shit up and make it back here the same way I left. I'm fighting to be the victor and wear the crown. The fucking crown is going to be mine, y'know."
