Cantara punches a decrepit door in her way out of Cathedral. It's all ruins, just hunks of stone and shards of glass and moldering wooden beams -- all dying before she's had a chance to. She rams her fist into the wood hoping to feel something other than despair, other than agony, other than grief.
Instead, her knuckles come away bloody and she thinks of Alpha Damion.
Of his strong silence. Of his strength. Of his darting glance and shock of hair.
She folds her claws into her palms. Stretches her fingers long. Flexes them inwards. In and out, in rhythm to her breathing. Tries to match to the gushing waterfountain. The miniature bloody falls.
Comes to rest.
On the cratered concrete fountain.
She's huffing air, sucking it down like it's going out of style, when she looks up to find Cash looming above her. He is more like Elvena -- more wraith, pale, quiet, drifting, nearly lifeless -- than she is. She is all hot and blood and immediacy and -- "will you tell me the truth?" she asks.
Her hot, hot breath crystalizes in the night breeze, "can I trust you?"
