They called us crazy.

A ranch would never work here! This is District One, not Ten, they would scoff.

But Father had plans. Mother died shortly after we were born and he was scared of the family name fading away, so he hatched this absolutely insane idea. A ranch, but not just any old ranch of course. The kind that would train us Careers through hard work and free labor. They said it would fail.

But the money never stopped rolling in.

So look who's laughing now.

Pops was a washed up Career. Never made it into the Games, never really amounted to much. So when he realized me and my brother were the only hope for the Rucker's name.

He got serious.

Day in and day out, we'd be working hard on the ranch learning practical skills and fighting skills. He didn't really believe much in the other Career centers since they did nothing for him. So, Father trained us instead. "One of you must bring us glory!" It was a daily statement, I swear. Engrained into my mind, dreams of winning fill my sleep. We're pretty evenly matched, me and my brother. We've even made appearances at the local center and they never know what to do with us and our unique fighting style. One of us is bound to bring us glory.

My brother is convinced it will be him.

Maybe one of us is crazy after all.
