Everyone hates Myra.

For as long as I can remember, this is the truth.

But, I'm the one who gave Myra her nickname. Me, when I was little and couldn't garble my way around Kamyra no matter how many times my mother made me practice it. Kamyra, fast, said like she was scolding me. Kamyra. It was synonymous with shame, with doing something wrong.

Myra? I'd ask, more than say. I can still feel the way I furrowed my brows, confused, caring, wanting it to be right, for something to be right. Myra. I remember her grabbing my hand, affirmation threaded between our fingers. My Myra.

I don't remember when it stopped being like that.

She pulled away first, I'm sure of it. She stopped wanting to play dolls with me one day, and I remember being devastated by it. I tore apart all the setups we'd built together. The fishing village in our imaginative Four, the pirate ship that we pretended lived off the coast. I kicked over the barn we'd built together for our dolls pretend horses. I think I even ripped down the artwork I'd drawn imagining the stories we'd told together.

I remember when Myra stopped coming to get her nails done with me and Mom. That one felt like having all the air sucked out of the room. We didn't even talk the first time she didn't come. Mom closed her eyes and pretended the world didn't exist for an hour and a half, didn't even flinch when they sanded down the nasty callouses on her heels. I know how much that tickles.

I was so invisible.

It's been lonely at home ever since. Mom hates Myra; Myra hates Mom; I'm tired of both of them and Dad likes to pretend neither of them exist most days. I'm not sure which of us is worse.
