꧁ pippa ꧂When you knock on Dolly's door, you do so carefully and politely.
When trying to get the attention of your other classmates, it usually takes a couple loud bangs for them to finally get on their feet and make their way over, but that's never been your experience with the resident star pupil. Far as it concerns you, she's as punctual and dependable as a person can possibly be. There was this one time a few years back, in Professor Moxen's class, when she turned in an essay assignment that wasn't due for a whole week. Barely a full day's worth of writing, and somehow she had quickly turned her thoughts and the reasoning behind them into prose worthy of a high grade.
You remember the way you watched her present her work with such confidence, a little in shock and a little in awe, only to gaze down at your own blank notebook and the flower doodles you had drawn there in place of clever sentences. The prompt played on a loop in your mind, but you couldn't find the words to describe your viewpoint for all the wonders taking up the space there. You never could. Still to this day, for every question put in front of you, you can think of at least ten good answers. All perfectly logical and reasonable.
Finality has never been something you agree with. When the paintbrush is stolen from your hand, and suddenly your world is filled in with colors you had no hand in choosing, it can be overwhelming. A life should only belong to the person who is living it, simple as that.
It's not shocking to say that, between the both of you, your brains are wired very differently. And that's totally okay! As much as you'd like for people to share your love of magic and the unknow, you know there's no fun in everyone having the exact same mindset. Even if you're alone in your beliefs, that doesn't scare you. Not everyone wants to be a scholar like Dolly, and does it seem like she's slowing down anytime soon?
When the door swings open, as quickly as expected, you offer the shorter girl a wide smile and wave for good measure. "Hi! I hope this isn't a bad time to visit? I wanted to tell you something that's been weighing on me recently, but only if you're not too busy. Don't let me get in the way of your studying!"
