93rd Official Muttation List
For the 93rd Arena, we've decided to release the muttations a little bit differently. Rather than having the experience of going in knowing what you are fighting, we are challenging you all to gather this information yourselves instead. Going into the arena, this list is a long series of question marks. As tributes move through the arena, they will trigger events that release information about the mutts there. As these creature get revealed, this list will be subsequently updated with information.
Each new area has a chance to reveal new information, so go exploring!
Zen Garden (Cornucopia)
THUNDERWINGS,
Originally intended as a way from farmers to distribute chemicals and the like across their fields, the creatures design was quickly put aside when they couldn't get the chemicals to interact differently with the dragonflies bodies. Rather than just carrying the chemicals, they started excreting odd gaseous clouds. In their wake is a strange crackling mist, which usually lingers in the air in pockets of lilac in the sky. It almost looks like clouds at sunset, except it crackles with energy. The dragonflies whiz around quickly, rarely leaving their swarms. The sound of their wings beating rings in people ears, even long after the swarm has gone.

GAMAJIRA, by tick 12a / calla
Some tributes may recognize these creatures for their hides were actually a popular fashion trend back in the 50's, but they've fallen out of style in recent decades so we don't blame you if you need reminding. These gentle giants are relatively harmless, especially when one considers how slow they are. If you're not careful though, they will crush you. There have been several documented instances of this occurring, unfortunately, so just make sure you're checking out any boulders for a closed set of eyes before sitting on it. There were also documented cases of wealthy citizens keeping them as pets, however, so administer affection with care and they may reciprocate. They tend to like the moisture in the rice fields the best, but can be found almost anywhere in the arena.

Koi Pond
LATCH CRABS,
Roughly a foot in diameter, this blend of king crab and spider has nearly indestructible armour and nearly indestructible silk. The thick, cord-like thread woven by Latch Crabs is like human hair in that virtually the only way to truly destroy it is by fire. This durable, flexible thread cannot be cut by any tool found in the arena, and actually acts as something of a fuse to the inevitable bomb that the Latch Crab is, given the high potassium nitrate content of its shell. The Latch Crabs are quite good at their designed job: latching on to a person and not letting go. Latch Crabs will exercise their iron grip on a person, gripping tightly so they can't be removed, and spinning an amount of silk — usually 30 to 50 yards — before they stop, trapping the person to the circumference of the circle that originates at a stationary object — typically a large rock. A favorite target of theirs is around the Achilles' tendon.

HORU FERRETS, by umber vivuus 12b 🥀 [dars]
The Horu Ferret is known and named for its habit of digging extensive burrows below ground, where they like to keep their treasure hoard. They are quite small, but they are not entirely defenseless! They have natural armor in the form of a strange, segmented shell which allows them to contort themselves into balls and roll away for a fast retreat. If provoked, they do a real number to some shins in this state, but they only get downright vicious when their hoard is in danger. That's when the claws come out and they start climbing up your legs to get to more vital bits. Their hoards are usually made up of useless little trinkets and shiny bits. But for the tributes in the arena, what lies below could be what makes the difference between life and death, for all they know.
Special Mechanic - Once per games day, if a tribute's fight has finished they may request a fight with a Horu Ferret to occur AFTER their mandate. The tribute will stumble upon a Horu and follow it back to its hoard, where the tribute will then have to fight it for the reward. The tribute's allies cannot help. If the fight has not concluded by the time gm's close maintenance, the fight automatically ends where it stands. If a tribute successfully kills a horu ferret, they can roll on a list of items predetermined by the gms and receive whichever they roll! Horu like pretty shiny trinkets, and have collected them from around the arena.

JOROGUMO, by lucius branwen / 10 — fox
Originally developed for the textile industry, the Jorogumo were a mutation that produced silk and spun threads, a normally labour intensive process. Upon creation, it was about 2-3 inches tall and had the appearance of a large spider in different vivid colors, producing a very fine, even, and durable silk. However, before it was ever released into production, the mutt was discontinued due to its habit of ensnaring people in the woven webs. Once caught, they would gradually pick apart their victims. The Jorogumo was developed from its tinier prototype for the arena, enlarged to human size and given oddly human features by scientists. A spider, walking nearly upright, silks hanging down around its eyes like long hair. In addition to its silk web-weaving abilities, it has a venom that is hallucinogenic and will use it to entrap and confuse its prey before tearing it apart with its talons.

Ancient Ruins
MACROMANTULA,
The intent was to create a larger species of spider, one that would spin thicker, stronger silk that could be used by the Capitol for various purposes. Capitol scientists were able to achieve this with the genes of a normal tarantula and some growth hormone; however, rather than the house cat-sized spider they’d been aiming for, they’d ended up with a massive brute of an arachnid, as tall as a small elephant with a legspan of over ten feet. These beasts were untamable; they would encase their caregivers in thick webs of silk, then inject their lethal poison into their bloodstream, killing them within the hour. Released in this arena, they flocked to the ruins, nestled and made burrows under the crumbling structures, laying in wait. Every so often they can be found hiding somewhere else though, so keep an eye out.

BOLTMARE, by umber vivuus 12b 🥀 [dars]
Much like its gaunt cousin, the unsaid, boltmares are creatures steeped in lore. It is said that they are harbingers of the storm, that they ride on roads of cloud and leave only thunderous applause and devastation in their wake. They are said to never come down to the ground, so they're pretty easily avoided by simply not climbing to high places. However, they're also relentlessly wild and impossibly fast. If you come across one and it deems you a threat, there's no getting away from it until one party is dead. They are kept aloft and in the air because their coat naturally generates a static sort of "case" around them, which the high magnectic frequencies of storms or storm clouds keeps them in the air. If a storm dissipates, the mare will have to land somewhere until another storm picks up- they usually aim for high places such as mountaintops.
