Everything in Georgie’s new house is so big. Even the bathtub is so much bigger compared to the one in Teddy Ursa’s house and now she does not even have to share it with anyone else! Just her and her Pappa. She has made it a ritual now to have the longest and biggest bubble bath twice a week, with all of her orange rubber duckie army that like to soak the floor of the bathroom, much to her papa’s dismay. Despite having so many more rooms to explore, it is becoming a little boring in the mayor’s house.
Compared to when her papa worked at the hospital, she does not see much of him now. Only at breakfast and at nighttime. Sometimes Georgie is lucky to get invited to one of the events and gets to wear a pretty dress but sometimes annoying people pinch her cheeks saying how grown up she is now.
This morning pappa is late out of bed, Georgie thinks he must have had a hard day yesterday so maybe he needs some help with his mayor jobs! Instead of raiding the kitchen for a bowl of cereal, Georgie makes her way to her pa’s office while still wearing her pyjamas and night gown. There is a great big pile of paper on his desk, it is nearly as tall as the nine year old. Georgie doesn’t quite know how to file all this paper, she has watched her pa write on them and either seal them in envelopes or pop them in one of the many filing cabinets around the office.
This should be an easy task.
Georgie climbs up onto the chair in front of the desk, flicking through the pile of papers trying to find something that does not contain big words that are hard to read. On one of the files in big red bold writing, she reads Very Important People of District Six. There are not many celebrities that Georgie admires, other than her papa and the heroes in the books that he reads to her. On the first page is a picture of Uncle Teddy, he looks a lot younger than Georgie has ever seen him before. He doesn’t look quite happy in the photo either. Maybe he needs to smile. Georgie grabs the nearest pen on the desk and draws a great big goofy smile on Teddy’s face. ”You look happy now, Uncle Teddy.” Then she flicks to the next page, it is that annoying Flynn Garner and he is smiling in his picture unlike Teddy. Georgie draws some frown lines on the victor’s brow and devil horns over his dark bushy hair. Then the next page is all the District Six council members, they all look so serious in their pictures. Georgie makes sure to fix all of them.
”G! What are you doing?” Georgie proudly raises an edited picture of Quest Hertz, who now has a beaming grin drawn on their face. ”I am making your friends look happy, they all look very sad in their pictures papa. Do you make them work too hard?”
Life has really sped up for the man that was once dead. Swapping navigating the corridors of a hospital for running an entire District has been a major jump. He just thanks his wild idea of creating a council, there is no way he could have managed all of this by himself. There is so much that Parson did not think would be an even a part of the job, taking on tasks as simple as fixing potholes on roads to mammoth duties such as organizing an entire reaping. The games part he has left in Teddy’s hands, his old victor friend seems well experienced with the matter compared to Parson’s one and only journey on that train.
He thinks Georgie has settled into the new life quite well, he has let his daughter loose in the mayor’s house, while still maintaining her schooling and all the friends she has made along the way. Parson is so proud of her and himself, that girl has turned out well. A little menace sometimes but she would be so boring if she always stuck to the rules! So long as his daughter is always happy then he will continue. Though sometimes Parson thinks there is something missing in her life, it has been a long time since he heard from Aeryn. Not that she ever wanted to continue contact with the pair of them.
Today is an anomaly, he has no engagements until later in the day so he is finally blessed with a once in a blue moon lie in. But Parson’s body clock does not agree, as soon as the sun breaks through his curtains, his brain switches on and he is stuck laying wide awake in his bed. Georgie must be awake; he can hear movements downstairs. Now the most responsible parent thing to do would be to see what she is doing but his bed feels comfier than it has ever been before.
Everything has gone quiet downstairs. She is up to no good.
Parson springs out of bed, throwing on a shirt and a pair of lounge trousers before heading down the stairs. She is not in the kitchen. Or the living room. His office door is opening though…
There she is, looking proud as ever with the files on all the VIPs in District Six, presenting a picture of Quest after Parson questions her. ”No Georgie, you are not meant to mess with my papers!“ Parson says, diving deeper into the pile to see what damage has already been done. There are no other copies of these papers. ”Oh god what have you done?” He flicks through all the papers, every single photo has some kind of drawing on it. While the new grinning photo of Teddy does make him laugh a little inside, he tries to suppress his own father that wants to rage at the little girl right now. ”Georgie I am sorry but you are not allowed in my office anymore. You know you are not meant to play here; all of this is very important! You are grounded - for a week! No playing out with your friends, you can go upstairs now and finish off your homework!”
The wrath of Georgie Cham is let loose in the room, the little nine-year old stomps her feet with every step she takes out of the office and up the stairs. Parson could have been harsher but disciplining his daughter has not been his strongest skill. Now he must spend the morning remaking this file, there goes his free schedule.
