”hears” speech
Watching another Hope die is never a great scene, but nobody's shocked it happened. I'm not, at least. We're zero for... Ripred knows how many by this point, but all I know is too many have died. It's been over twenty years since we lost the first one, and the rest just felt like a domino effect. Regardless, I already had my flower arrangement prepared for the girl. It mostly contained white lilies, cyclamens, and marigolds. The white, pink, and yellow were all too bright for a girl that died, but they all correlated to her.
Lotus decided that she wanted to come to the store today. For some time, I've wondered if she only came to get out of school. It was a valid excuse to let her get "real experience" within the district. Forcing them to learn about fabrics and shit can be important, but put those kids in the workplace. Not a factory, where they're breaking hands or losing limbs, but give them some experience in the real world. Give theem a chance to work the hustle if they want to. Lotus said she wanted to, but most of the time, she distracts the customers more than anything. But I'm always glad to have her presence.
With Dorothy's death, I figure she'll have another pique of interest in my sisters. It happens a lot when a Hope dies. Normally I try to avoid her questions, but lately, I have thought it's best to start talking about it. It's unfair to her not to know about Lily, Paige, and Eva. But it has to come up, not something I spring onto her. I want her to be ready - you always say you know your own children, but I don't know how she'd react to her dead aunts.
I looked at the replica of Dorothy's bouquet, a clear vase filled with some water to keep the flowers alive. A small jar sat next to it for people to offer light donations to the family. "Hey, Lo'." Maybe she'd know anything about Dorothy. The girl never cared about the family too much, but we had family gatherings often, so who knows if they've spoken. "You know if any other colors would look good here?" Maybe she knew Dorothy's favorite color, or something, to give it something more specific to her.
