O C T A V I O .
"ningún cañón borrará
el surco de tu arrozal
el derecho de vivir en paz"
His head was absolutely pounding when he got to the liquor shop.
Okay, maybe calling it a liquor shop was a bit of an overstatement.
You see, there was this old man, he lived pretty close to Tavo's house, it was about half an hour by foot; He made rum from his home, and yeah, it might not have been the best rum ever, but it was dirt cheap. While Tavo could afford to live comfortably, he wasn't exactly rich, and his little habit wasn't exactly cheap, so he would spare every penny he could.
The point is, Octavio's supply had ran out. He was too busy and distracted by work and helping Tina with her homework, so he didn't notice it until it was too late. He hadn't had time to buy more alcohol for a couple of days, so yeah, he wasn't feeling so hot at the moment.
"Hello Jerry" he greeted the old man as he opened the door for him, his voice hoarse, his fingers massaging the bridge of his nose.
"Hey son, what can I get for you today?" Tavo felt really grateful that Jerry didn't comment on his appearance, he never really did, wich was great for him because he was very much aware that he looked like a mess.
He was sweaty from the walk, his hands shaking like crazy, his hair unkempt, the dark circles around his eyes almost pitch black, he felt like he was about to puke.
This was not his week.
"Two bottles please."
The man walked into his home, leaving Tavo waiting at the door, anxiously tapping the concrete floor with his foot. He came back a minute or so later, a big paper bag in his hand.
"Thank you Jerry" Octavio took out some coins from his pocket and dropped them in the old man's open hand, retrieving the paper bag.
After he closed the door, Tavo let himself fall on his ass beside it. He quickly got one of the bottles out, weakly pulling at the cork until he was able to get it off.
"Fucking finally" he whispered under his breath before desperately chugging on it, as the burning sensation spread from his chest to the rest of his body he could feel his headache subsiding.
He let his head fall back, closing his eyes and breathing deeply, he just wanted to rest his eyes for a little bit.
He didn't hear the steps approaching, he just felt a presence close to him, and when he opened his eyes there she was. Tavo couldn't see her face, the sunset casting it's light at her back, but he could recognize that bright pink hair anywhere.
"Hey Ursula."
