Wandering girl at thirteen, I still remember that fateful day where I was drawn to pet the herd owned by the church. I was soon snatched by the hands of the divines, forced to confess my sins and pledge allegiance to their holy deity. Even since being a toddler in the orphanage, I have always looked up to the victors of District Ten, more so Saffron Lowe but Ansgar Todd, he has always been the forgotten name tagged at the end. Not here though. God, I believe in. God has strange ways of doing things but really Ansgar Todd?

But they are the only ones to open their arms to this wandering girl.

I am comfortable in my bedrest in the loft of the barn, there is personality in each of those stalls beneath it and I am blessed to work with every one of them. Some of the others scold their rides as beasts but they are no different to the humans that saddle them. I am their voice of reason; each one has their own words to say while bucking their riders into the dirt.

It is fair work, and I am paid with clothes on my back and food in my gut. I do my best to follow their principles, the Latin is difficult to get my tongue around and sometimes my mind wanders during the services. I’d rather be out there in the barn or on horseback, following the hundreds of miles of hidden trails, even beyond District Ten.

My sins are hidden away in the hayloft, the barely a few weeks old orange kitten that appeared out of nowhere from the heavens. I cannot imagine what will happen to the little critter if it were ever to be discovered. It is just like me, a stray child that has drifted into the wrong hands.
