Tanner loathed being sent to visit the jail.
Josiah Collins was a haunted man, kind in his own ways but he bore witness to some of the ugliest truths Father Garcia had to show in those depths. It was a side of his father Tanner always tried to forget about, but people always seemed to change when they made it to the darkness of the jail basement cellar. Leading with kindness isn't always the answer, but damned if he wasn't one to try at least.
Walking through the jail doors, he introduces himself with a tip of his hat before the Collins father shows him to the stairwell, the keys jingling on his hip with every step. He waits nervously as the cellar door is unlocked, following behind the staunch man as they pass by a handful of empty cells. There are only two people locked away: one, a priest believed to be touched by the devil, and two, Luciano Torres, the man Tanner was here to see.
From the way his father spoke of him, Luciano was a talented individual, blessed in ways the prisoner's born-again eyes were too dowry to see. An architect, planned to deliver them a great new chapel for worship - in his current state, Tanner wondered if he would be able to at all. He stands at the bars, looking inwards observing the man while Josiah Collins unlocks the gate between them. Tanner looks to the jailor for a second before stepping into the entrance, taking space alongside Torres.
"Hello there, brother," he starts, testing how conscious the man seemed. At the nod of his head, Tanner continues, "Father tells me you have embraced our tenants, so I believe it's my duty to see you released." He sits on his heels next to the slumped architect, taking in how pitiful the man looks in this state.
"I'd like to show you around, if you are ready to join me."
