86.5th Hunger Games Arena
The Boardwalk
Several Abandoned buildings line the boardwalk as well as a lot of litter. Some of the windows are broken and shattered, some are barred up, some doors are closed and rusted into place. Old food pop up stands line the edge. It's clear people haven't been cleaning up after themselves. Normally it seems like this place was once busy, but now there's nothing. Sometimes you can see seagulls flying around, and if you're quiet when the wind blows you can hear the sound of the constant chatter and laughter that once filled the area. Nobody knows what exactly happened, and they fear it may happen again. ~ Ems
The Pier
Each step on the wooden plank causes a creak to vibrate across the pier. There are equal gaps between each plank which reveal the waves down below. Anyone with a fear of heights is advised to not look down. The pier stretches out from the coast for at least 1700 feet. Once it reaches the end, the parallel lines finally meet in a circle, the pier being wide and circular as it finally ends. Metal railing line the pier, trapping anyone from daring to step off its edge. It is a long drop into the ocean and the beach below. ~ frankel
The Beach
To the left of the Pier and next to the Boardwalk sits the beach, looking like it was taken straight out of a postcard. Crystal blue water laps gently against the golden sand littered with tiny shells and the occasional piece of trash, leaving streaks of foam on the wet sand. Seagulls squawk as they soar above the ocean, looking for unsuspecting fish to feast on, and the occasional boat can be seen sailing across the horizon. But beware of this seemingly perfect weather - as there may be surprises lurking underneath the ocean surface. ~ zoë.
The Arcade
To the right of a skatepark sits a large building with only one door to enter. Walking through the door you see many video games lining the walls. Basketball games, race car games, Pac-Man, pinball, Mario, and many many more. In a corner you can see a counter set up with many prizes behind it, but if you walk closer to it, you'll hear a voice say "tickets please." And the only way to get the tickets is by playing and winning the games. In the very Center of the arcade is a machine where you insert your coins for a chance to win many tickets. Are you lucky enough to succeed or will you leave empty handed? Press your luck to find out. ~ Ems
The Skatepark
Palm trees and scraped knees are prevalent at the Skatepark. Once a bustling hub of cool, the Skatepark is now mostly abandoned. Many moons ago this place was full of teenagers mingling about and blasting music through portable speakers, with adults frowning at the youths with baggy jeans and oversized hoodies and tutting at the empty cans of spray paint left lying around the giant concrete bowls. Evidence of the youth of yesterday can still be found in multi-coloured graffiti painted on concrete ramps and stairs of the skatepark. If you listen closely you can hear the eerie sound of wheels scraping concrete and wood grinding against rails. The air smells like salt, sweat, and soda, with several beat-up snap-back hats and the odd single skate shoe littered between the crushed-up cans of root beer, empty candy bar wrappers, and broken CD-ROM discs. ~ zoë.
The Funfair
The funfair acts at the cornucopia where the tributes begin their adventure. The centerpiece being the towering ferris wheel that can be seen from every location in the arena. Various other rides accompany the ferris wheel such as bumper cars, a child rollercoaster and teapots, all of which are fully functional! Lights of every colour sparkle across the fair and the clashing sound of each ride’s tunes echo in the air. The carrousel filled with horses and carriages spins around on its own journey. It won’t stop so if anyone dares to ride it, they best practice their vaulting. A handful of red tents are scattered across the funfair, housing candyfloss machines, crazy mirrors and spooky mazes to get lost in! ~ frankel
