Our universe walks a fine line between destruction and creation. Neither being able to exist without the other. Mankind introduced a third variable to the equation, reconstruction. We found a way to reverse the natural effect of destruction and only prevent the inevitable. Those of us willing to experiment and interfere with mortality of humanity usually operated on a much higher level of intelligence than the average human. Whilst I am anything but average, I like to focus on sticking around for a good time not a long time. Voluntary destruction was my bitch .
The stupid hunger games were not part of my definition of voluntary destruction. I would leave that to the careers, I have every intention of leaving here alive to return to my realm of sin. With that in mind, I felt compelled to try my hand at some reconstruction. Preservation beckoned me to the first aid station. There have been enough incidents in my life for me to know the basics. If you get stabbed, leave the weapon in otherwise you will bleed out. If that is not an option, cut off circulation. If someone smashes a bottle over your head, don’t go to sleep, you might have a concussion. Those were nasty little shits.
Alongside me at the station was the boy from district twelve, I was learning to definitely not underestimate the lower districts. In today’s day in age, it was important to maintain the balance of all three elements of life. Creation had no space in the hunger games, but reconstruction most definitely did, and it was time I found myself someone who knew what they were doing. How would the boy hold up under the pressure of an audience?
I moved up behind him, peering over his shoulder to get a closer look at what he was doing. A needle weaving through a fake wound. A slice that could easily have been made on any one of us during the games. His fingers moving with grace and precision, indicating that this was not a challenge for him. What would be? Back at home if I wanted to put someone’s skills to the test, I had them perform their craft at gun point. It is how I found all my best chemists, if they could keep their cool in high pressure circumstances then and only then were they able to work for me.
”Beautiful work. ” It was not everyday I gave a compliment, but nothing has been the same since my name was called out. ”Want to play a game? ” I whisper into his ear.
