Trees flash by in green blurs.
The sky melts into different shades of blues, and eventually hues of pinks and orange.
Her life flashes before her eyes in small bursts. First, her birth mother, then the streets, then the Spring’s as they scooped her up from that dreaded orphanage. She was supposed to be thankful for what they did for her, for giving her a life. Especially one like hers that was filled with luxury. But Leonora knows damn well she wouldn’t be in this mess if they just left her there to rot.
For weeks she wished for someone to come find her.
Now, she just wished she kept her mouth shut.
There’s a long moment of silence on the train. The sound of metal grinding against metal screams through the cabin, sending goosebumps down her arms. Avriel and Storm were nowhere to be found. Leo assumed they were in their rooms relaxing, being pampered, or whatever it is that victor’s normally do. So, it was her and the other girl unfortunate enough to be chosen as pawn in their stupid games.
Olete, if she recalled correctly. Though her memory shouldn’t be trusted. The Reaping already felt as if it was days behind her.
”Well, looks like neither of us has someone who cares enough to volunteer,” she scoffs. Her fingers find themselves in her hair, carelessly pulling out the pins that were keeping her intricate updo together. Her curly hair falls over her shoulders and she quickly reaches to her lower back to undo the ribbon keeping her corset together.
”So what misfortune brings you here?” she motions to the car of the train. “Terrible luck or some type of punishment?” Leo can’t help but laugh at her circumstances that are an unfortunate combination of both.
All that time she begged to be noticed.
But now she begged to disappear.
