I've always love trivia surrounding the Hunger Games, so I decided to have some fun with it. I'd quizzed a few trainers on trivia regarding aspects of recent Hunger Games, and they all seemed to do quite well with that. It was when you delved further into the past that they struggled.

Talking with the trainer at the plants station, I gave him a few facts about things that he might not have known.

"Did you know that most of the recent victors have used bladed weapons in their final fight?" I said to him. "I mean, Theo didn't. He used a spear. But a lot of them have used things like swords— or Nixie with her machete. That kind of stuff."

The trainer simply nodded. I knew there were other tributes nearby to me, and that I might be annoying them, but I was having fun. I even looked to one of the guys near me and gave him a smile before deciding that maybe I could pull him into the trivia teaching session too.

"I'm sharing some Hunger Games trivia," I told him. "There's some pretty neat facts about the Games, if you really look into it. Like how in the seventy-fifth Hunger Games, Sage Scarborough was the first one to draw something with the crayons that caused things to come to life. Some butterflies and some rabbits."

I was pretty confident in my Hunger Games knowledge, so I was sure that was a fact that had to be news to him. Plus, those Games were nearly twenty years ago, so maybe he'd be impressed that I knew it. My sisters were always amazed with my Hunger Games facts back home, even as people who were terrified of the Hunger Games.

I was personally always amazed by Hunger Games facts and trivia because it taught me things that a lot of people didn't pay attention to. That, and some of the trivia and such would ultimately be helpful if I ended up in the Games; like statistics of which weapons have proven the most useful.

The plants station was finally something I'm good at. After Xaa's interrogation at the first aid station, Larissa's insistence that I can throw a javelin, and Vallen's timidity, this was going to be my relaxation for the day. I knew the plants inside and out, at least the ones from district twelve. The ones that I didn't know were slowly revealing their mysteries to me as I read through a thick picture book. It was like one of the textbooks at home.

It was calm. Sitting amongst the variety of toxic and edible plants surrounded by so many weapons felt like I was in the eye of a storm. I thought I had at least a good hour or two before I was interrupted, but the storm did not grant me my rest.

The boy from six came whirling in like a pocket-sized hurricane full of hunger games facts and trivia. There was someone like that at my old school in twelve. People like them know everything about the games like it's a fun vacation where people don't really end up dying. It's disgusting.

As the trainer nodded along to the boy's rambling, I stared at the book so hard I think the pages might fall apart. Belladonna, hemlock, oleander I read the names one by one, desperately trying to avoid his attention. For a second I think it's working, but then-

"I'm sharing some Hunger Games trivia,"

Shit.

I look up, my mouth clenched. Almost breaking a tooth, I kept my face from contorting in utter annoyance as he spoke. He's just a kid. An annoying kid, but just a kid. Even though he might not realize it yet, he doesn't deserve to be here either. He's just going to become another statistic for someone just like him to memorize.

He finishes forcing the fact into my ears and I take a pause for a second. I don't know much facts about the hunger games, but I do know some. It's unavoidable sometimes in school to hear people talk about the past games. Sometimes patients talked about it to ease their fear of death when they came to my family's doorstep.

"Wasn't that Eva Hope?" I say, unclenching my jaw a bit to speak. This will probably lead to more painful conversation, but knocking the kid down a few pegs might do some good in the world. "And why does it matter anyways? That was twenty years ago."
