At least typically, they were more likely to win if they had people on their side. They were, realistically, being targeting by less people. At least when you looked at the actual numbers. I mean, looking at having two or three people on your side, or even just one: your odds are better than having absolutely everyone against you.
That's why I needed to try to make friends. A lot of people here already seemed to be deterred from me. Sure, I get it. Some of them probably found me obnoxious with how talkative I am. Others were probably intimidated. Others, although I hate to admit it, probably though I wouldn't be very useful. I suppose I can't blame them for thinking that, especially if they're from an upper District: I'm from District Six, after all.
Realistically, I wanted allies from upper Districts. Ideally? Career districts. Unfortunately, things didn't seem to be going my way as of the moment. No one had really expressed much intertest in teaming up, but I suppose things were still to be seen. Maybe I just had to look in other places.
So, that's exactly what I did when I saw one of the boys from Ten standing not too far from me in the dining hall. He was this tall, lanky kid: he was probably over six feet in height, making him more than half a foot taller than me. (Yeah, I'll admit it, I'm pretty short, but I'm only sixteen! People really need to give me a break on that one).
I didn't know much about the guy: I honestly couldn't even think of his name. I was pretty sure it was something that started with an 'E', but I didn't know whether it was Ethan or Elijah or Eric or like, Edison or something. I was just drawing a blank. I know that sounds dumb, but twenty-three other names is a lot to keep track of. I had a lot of Hunger Games knowledge stored in my brain and there wasn't a lot of room for new stuff.
I know, I know, the names will probably be of some importance later. I'll work on it.
Anyway, I waved to him, motioning for him to join me. I also wanted to make sure he knew I was talking to him.
"Hey Ten," I called over to him, raising my voice just enough for him to hear me but also making sure I wasn't completely shouting. "Come sit."
I was hoping this was a good decision.
