Anthem - Day 2

Nobody's dead. 

Astrid paces back and forth, back and forth, cursing herself quietly. She knows this is standard now, for tributes to run straight for the hills and never look back the second that countdown hits zero. But god damn it, she thought they might have had it this time. 

There's no Dr. Elysium to look up to now, doe-eyed and juvenile. Astrid sits in the big girl chair. It's her neck on the line, her reputation to uphold. That stupid damn trophy sitting in the apartment she calls home, glinting in the moonlight: GAMEMAKER OF THE DECADE. 

And for what? For what, god damn it? 

Olete Bene was right. That little bitch. Astrid breathes through her nose, counts down from twenty-four, centers herself in the control room. Watches the little numbered icons prance across her screen, collect bundles of items from anywhere but the Cornucopia. They're too spread out. Too bold. Hindsight's a bitch, biting down. Her jaw aches, grinding teeth in what little sleep she gets these days.

Fine. Olete Bene of District Nine thinks Hades Lochlan is Gamemaker of the Decade? Well, funny that. Because Astrid agrees. 

She presses the button on her microphone, eyes flashing something violent - but her voice is as cool as the night sky. 

"Maddox? Send in the hounds."

The Blight brings a chill to the air, as if the twisting purple roots and dark grey muck have sucked all of the warmth out of its infected areas. This chill stretches across the arena as nightfall rests its head against the sky - and you can't shake that eerie silence of no canonfire, no faces in the sky. In fact - there's no anthem at all. Just twinkling skies and what you swear may be whispers, childlike giggles. Or simply your imagination?

A low groan aches from the Cornucopia Portal. What lies beyond it? What does it want? And why are you still, strangely, drawn to it? Secrets, you swallow them down or trade them for items. The truth feels so fragile here. Is this place what it seems? You aren't so sure. 

When you wake, it is to a sound perhaps worse than the fatal command of canon-fire. Crying? Screaming? Howling? Snapping? All of the above? 

The monsters wait. And they are anything but quiet.

THE ARENA SKIES^

Numair (Solo) vs Faerie Dragon

^ Numair will be flying in the skies above the arena, chased by an angered Faerie Dragon wanting to steal his supplies. Once he hits 20 damage he will flee from the dragon and land, assisting the tribute with the highest damage after their completed mandate.

CLIMATE.
A chilly evening, bringing forth goosebumps on skin and dewdrops on trees and fauna across the arena upon daybreak. Although the sun brings a welcoming warmth, the temperature increase is a slow one at best. The air feels fresh and fragrant - unless you're in a blighted area, with a musty dampness filling your lungs with each breath.
