One thing to know about Lorenzo Keith Emberstatt is that he will always be up to something.
He was once again travel bound, spending his week preparing for yet another seminar, now in that of district 4. It was a complicated relationship, him and District 4 - he hadn’t been in a while, and made no plans to see his old friends while he was in. Maybe he would visit the docks, sightsee down nostalgia’s winding seas, but he didn’t wish to see his old captain again. His captain, nor his crew mates, nor anyone else he had ever known. Lorenzo was dreading the travel, counting his days until.
Today, he has other business to attend to.
It’s in the back of his mind the entire trek to the Mayor’s Office. You see, the mayor is a complicated… friend of Enzo’s. Acquaintances? Strangers with benefits? Regardless, Novak was a man Lorenzo knew a few different ways, and knew he could help him out exactly as he needed. Enzo tossed proposals around in his mind, toying with presentations as he drove his father’s car to the center of the district. In the parking lot, he adjusts himself sharply in the truck’s mirrors and buttons one lower on his button up. Popping a mint into his mouth, he pops open the driver’s door and begins his way to meet the mayor one more time.
Enzo hadn’t visited him at work before, and hadn’t been to the mayor’s office since his brother had lost his re-election four years ago. In a way, it felt like it was lost territory. He used to know everybody here, he practically grew up with the office as a second home. Before Kieran, it was their dad, and before their dad even, it was their aunt. Emberstatts owned this office for a decade, so it was strange to return to it a stranger almost. It had been far too long.
From entering the building, the Emberstatt boy makes his way to the receptionist, where he makes it evident he has a meeting scheduled with the mayor. Yes, he knows it’s not in the system, it’s an informal meeting. What’s that? Well I’m glad you asked, it’s where Lorenzo makes things up and hopes it works out. And it does, as she agrees to take him to Novak’s office. He has no visitors, which in Enzo’s world, is a free invitation to waltz right in. He thanks the receptionist for the directions before she leaves and he opens the office door, purposeful to not look at the mayor as he enters the room. He looks to the door for a second after he closes it, trying to decide what direction to take this before springing into it.
“Well,” he says, pulling his blazer off by the sleeve, slowly. “Hello, Mr. Mayor,” Lorenzo only looks to him here, taking his coat in his hands and placing it on the coat rack. Novak and him make eye contact for a moment, him halting his writing and then returning to after breaking their sights on one another. Lorenzo runs his left hand with his right as he walks over, taking place next to Novak behind the desk.
“And what are you working so hard on, huh?”
