Give them what they want. When Leo untangles himself from Spencer and heads for the door, Spencer tells him it's already locked. Others might assume he was running away, (and isn't he always,) but Spencer's done this before enough times to know how it works with him: Leo is allowed to enjoy himself, for instance. Just only when there are no witnesses. And only when the conditions are as he prefers them. The adrenaline-fueled moments before, sharing a bench in the locker room after Exy practice, trying not to look too long while they changed. Both of them loitering around longer than the others on purpose. It's all a part of the dance at the end of the day.
Spencer knows what he is good at, and he enjoys feeling good at something. It is always a risk to mix business and pleasure, but in Spencer's case business truly is a pleasure. He likes to mind it. And then, like all good secrets, there's no trace of him. Gone, a moment in time the only proof of him.
Two hours later, he's smoking a cigarette in a park and the sun is going to set soon. He'll find a new friend, pretend not to notice the tan line on their finger, do what he does best. Give them what they want. It's the best way for him to get what he wants, too. Though what that truly is, he's not sure. It always feels satiated after, for a moment maybe. Or maybe not even after, maybe only during. He hopes he doesn't just want to feel needed that badly, likes to think maybe he's just getting even with his parents for their own mistakes or something.
He finishes the last drag and stamps it out with his shoe, sprays himself with cologne and pops a piece of chewing gum into his mouth to hide the evidence. A man glances over his shoulder, makes eye contact. Spencer smiles, stretches, stands. Another secret.
The guy tucks his hands into his pockets, switching his weight between his feet and pretending to be unaware Spencer’s there. He sighs. If he's already doing all the work now, that doesn't bode well for- ope! Spencer has taken the first few steps toward the guy when something else catches his eye: a girl, hurdling toward him at impossible speeds, seemingly unable to stop herself. Spencer barely has time to comprehend before she crashes to the ground in front of him.
His intention is to laugh, and then he sees who it is and he knows he's struck gold for a moment. Camila Fucking Sharpe? This is classic! She has been a thorn in his side all semester long, between trying to get Leo kicked off the Exy team for his grades and trying to get Ripley expelled for "threats" against her "safety" or however she phrased it in the report- the point is that now he's just witnessed her bust her ass hard, and its only then he remembers he's alone at the moment, which makes it lose its significance. It happened, sure, but later it'll only be a story to the others. They aren't here to share in the glory of watching her awkwardly try to stand back up with him, which honestly takes it from comical to a bit sad real fast.
And then he's struck with an idea.
Give them what they want.
He is as much full of spite as he is passion; if he cannot meet an end with the one, he does not mind indulging the other. He nods a slight no to the man, who quickly turns and goes on about his business.
"Oh, goodness!" He says, doing his best impression of Antonio since he's seen the two of them spending time together around school, "I saw the fall from my-" he clears his throat to buy enough time to think of a lie that doesn't put him in the park on a cruise- "-um, my birdwatching bench! Are you okay?" He offers a hand and smiles.
