Nekhbet has always wanted to be a mother, but the life she can live for now will do. She cares for Wadjet— her twelve-year-old younger cousin— because Aunt Phae and Uncle Dez are hardly ever around. Or more so, Aunt Phae is always busy working and Uncle Dez is a lazy son-of-a-bitch who doesn't put enough work into parenting his own child.

To Nekhbet, even though Wadjet isn't her own child, she feels like she practically is, and cares about her as if she were anyway.

Nekhbet's parents often get worried about her— wandering off to Wadjet's house for hours on end, or when she's not there, going off into the District to find more people to help with things. Her empathy leads her to help strangers on the streets, or any person in her life that needs help. She could never imagine herself hurting someone unless it was to help protect those she cared about.

So, in the Games? She'll need to realize that it's the time to care about herself... to protect herself.
